Most supporters seem to think that refs are biased or at least making more bad decisions against their team than others. I suspect it really does even out over time.
Many refs would have given us a penalty against Millwall and many refs would have given Blackburn a penalty against us.
There have been numerous blatant failures by refs over the years but I think that they are more memorable because they’re not that common. Countless games come and go without anything to particularly moan about because the ref hasn’t made mistakes. It can’t be easy when 22 blokes are trying to cheat constantly either.

The point is, they shouldn't be making mistakes like that. The fact is they do and on a regular basis.
I honestly see where you’re coming from Smurph, but I think it’s simply human nature and human factors.

However trained-up a ref is, if you’re watching a home player go down slightly easy (to a fan watching) and then met with 30k+ fans screaming at you to blow the whistle, you’re inevitably going to get some that will subconsciously be led to give a foul. I don’t think there are any properly bent refs, maybe some that are just more susceptible to human factors…just like all walks of life.

Sure, it’s frustrating as hell sometimes, but many argue that it’s part of the game. Unless we literally take the ref off the pitch and put him in a studio with a big buzzer to stop play, that will never go away.

Are we really saying that Swansea City has more referee mistakes against us than other teams ?😂

Other teams could not possibly think they are hard done by ..could they ? 😂😂
About 10 years ago the Welsh Nationalist posters were convinced those englanders were against us from the first whistle.. those pesky English people, driving all the way down west wales and north wales spending money in the local Welsh economy.. bloody foreigners, never mind the 100s that work in our NHS.. they're all out to destroy our heritage

I totally get subjective issues and the odd decision not being given due to error. What I can't agree with is the blatant continuation of the most basic of errors.

The Liverpool, Spurs one I posted a link to in this thread is indefensible and the Millwall penalty that was never given just can't be defended.

I blame the referees.

I do feel a little (tiny!) bit sorry for refs. Having to make decisions within a second which will be analysed and overanalysed by replays, TV pundits, YouTube channels, podcasts, forums such as this one…it must be pretty tough. Humans make mistakes, even basic ones, sometimes. Plenty argue that that is part of the game that is being lost, with the game becoming too clinical.

If we want near 100% accuracy, we’re going to have to have constant video refereeing that will slow down the game, see play being pulled back constantly, etc.. You have to think of the balance between accuracy and enjoyment - the balance between competition and entertainment.
Well that's a reasonable post, but if you recall some of the penalty shouts we've had and that have been turned down what conclusion can you make.

One of our players would virtually need to be kicked in the air and an opposition player would need to catch the ball for them to give us a penalty.

Excuse the slight exaggeration, but you can appreciate my point.

But the point surely being missed is that players equally make the most basic of errors, leading to goals being conceded through poor defending or open goals being missed through a poor pass or skewed shot. Happens a lot. I'd love to know how many points are lost through player mistakes versus referee mistakes. Share the burden of blame I say 😊

Honestly have no idea why you keep comparing the incompetence of the officials to players, there is no comparison.

Of course there's a legitimate comparison. Each is a human being. Each makes mistakes. And yes, a pint is in order and I hate international breaks 😂
