Hard to find many negatives in todays win, especially after what we've been used to over the last few weeks.

I don't understand that at all.

Just on this...

It makes sense if you're canny with the ins and outs of xG, but this is an example where it isn't a very good metric for a game. Under Sheehan, I was complaining week in, week out for about two months regarding our woeful attacking input and low xG, so really, I should be over Matos for the same.

The difference is the threat we carried outside of shots. One of the main faults of xG is that it only prescribes itself as a metric of a shot - for example, a perfectly whipped cross that needs a touch from a gnat's wing to go in, still only accounts for 0.0 as there is no shot to measure.

Today was a performance where we carried a lot of threat and a decent amount of excitement, even if they didn't necessarily lead themselves to clear shots on goal with a high conversion rate. Tymon's goal will obviously have an xG of 0.01, maybe 0.02, Stamenic also did well with his header to get it through a crowd of players.

Additionally, Oxford did have those two Lankshear chances that were very strong, the back post header in particular was a sitter. But no-one would argue we didn't deserve to win today.

Echoing a few other comments on here, I think the clear feature of our game for Matos to work on is our chance creation from open play. It's as low as it can physically be at the moment, Sheehan completely destroyed us a threat, but it's early days and I've liked what I've seen so far

We had passages of play which created openings, we scored 2 goals from set pieces yes but how many times have folks moaned we dont do that. Stamenics goal came from a free kick resulting from a foul near to the Oxford box as we were attackimg them and had them under the cosh. Todays win and clean sheet will boost the confidence of a bunch of apparantly crap players according to forum sages ....despite only being on the ground for 12 days this inexperienced coach has already made improvement yes one swallow and all that but there are signs of positive change

Are you suggesting we create chances from set pieces? This is the Swans mate - today was the FIRST goal of the season from a set piece,

But I don't think we did control most of the game. First 10mins they were better, we were then ontop from then until half time. Then the 2nd half was all them and the changes made it worse.

We controlled 35mins of a 90min game against a really poor quality side at home. We can't give an away team that much control when we are 2-0 up.

Aren't we allowed to have nice things? With that ref totally bending us over the bins and a hard to beat tough and aggressive opponent... I thought we were very good value!

Oxfords last 3 games (before today) were a draw V Boro, a draw v Norwich and a victory over Ipswich.
They are not the cream of the division - but they are quite hard to beat. In fact they have only been beaten by 2 goals (never more) in 3 games this Championship season including today!

I agree, the second half drop off was worrying to me also. If Oxford had got one after half time we could well have crumbled again. We seemed to do the retreat back into our shell again and leave Oxford attack us and they really should have scored one.
