He's not wrong about Roberto's ability to fail upwards though. Although I think it's generally believed he got the Portugal job because he would be a yes man and not try to drop the sainted Cristiano, unlike the last guy.

He's just a very average manager who talks a good game but delivers very little, even when he has some of the worlds greatest players at his disposal. Luckily for him his bull**it seems to convince a lot of teams to take him on.

I had the privilege of watching a Swansea training session back in the day. Basically, Roberto Martínez just stood there with his arms folded the whole time, not saying a word while Graeme Jones put the players through their paces. There were two different five-a-side teams, all playing fast, fluid, two-touch football. The speed at which the ball was being knocked around was absolutely incredible, with Jones barking out instructions and stopping play to correct errors when needed. Martínez may as well not have been there.

The younger Roberto just starting out was like a breath of fresh air until he became full of his own self importance.

Klopp never put on many sessions at Liverpool. He'd stand back and observe, watch the players body language, get a feel for who was sharp and who wasn't.

Not comparing Martinez to either of those you understand, but this idea that if a manager is not hands on then he's not doing his job, it is incorrect.
