Common theme I've seen on other teams message boards when discussing us, Swansea have a bad/rubbish keeper.

Not sure why, perhaps the penalty incident, one mistake gets noticed and that's it, tarnished reputation.

Mind you every season I read we have a poor team from the same boards.

He's an excellent 'keeper who just needs more games in this system to work on his distribution. His shot stopping and claiming of crosses is top drawer.

A much much better keeper all round the Woodman I feel… I don’t know why people have such a go at his distribution either… bar the odd misses here and there I think his passing has been outstanding - compare it to Freddie ‘Kick to touch’ Woodman who struggled to keep the ball on the pitch.

A good shot stopper but needs to improve with his feet. He nearly cost us twice with his bad passing.

His feet are fine. He’s been caught out by the press a few times so that tells me it’s about decision making. The new manager came in and gave him a chance so he followed his instructions because he wants to be the man but unfortunately it led to some bad decision making. Against Bristol City he listened to his instincts more and as a result there were more clearances but he was more comfortable at times. It’s something him and the manager need to work on to find the right balance.

If we’d played Benda instead of wasting our time and money on Woodman, we’d be a lot better off. Or he’d be in goal for Newcastle. He’s going to be a brilliant keeper.

Needs seasoning. In goalkeeping terms he's still a baby. With more experience will come more composure, which is about his only glaring weakness at present. Otherwise he's a very exciting prospect indeed.

Agreed. Also agree with Monny who points out we're going to benefit from the seasoning and composure more experience will give him, either in performances for us or the transfer fee we'll receive for him.

I have no problems with using the loan system to improve the team when we can't afford to permanently sign all the players we want and hopefully Laird will be the latest player to improve us in this way. But having Woodman for 2 seasons would only have been classed as a success if it led to promotion or a permanent transfer here. Instead he's just stunted progress of our own young keeper who seems better suited to Martin's style of play.

Yep.

Said last summer that borrowing Woodman again was a waste of a loan, and none of the subsequent events changed my mind.

Rumour has it it was done as a favour to Southgate.
