Competent ball playing goalkeepers are at a premium, the well known ones usually are extremely expensive and the unknown ones will always be untested at this level.

I stick by my assertion that Benda can grow to be better than Fisher given experience in and around the first team setup rather than being shipped out on loan elsewhere.

Based on what? They’re both pretty much the same age, both made mistakes last season, so what do you base your assertion on? Fisher also made some cracking saves last season and kept us in games but people seem to want to forget that. I’m not saying Fisher is better or isn’t better than Benda, but I feel a lot of the stick he gets is unwarranted. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I was a keeper myself and I kind of feel sorry for him, it’s a frigging hard position to play, especially when he’s being asked to play the way we do, and it’s even harder when you know people don’t trust you. I felt bad enough making mistakes up Mynydd Newydd, I couldn’t imagine what it’s like to hear 17,000 people moaning and sighing every time you have the ball at your feet 😂

His (Fisher) distribution is applaing and his decision making is appalling. The groans are only going to get worse if he can't pull himself together. If he can't play the way the mamnager expects him to there is no reason for him to be favoured over Benda, who at least is a decent instinctive keeper.

Surely that’s down to Russell Martin then? Fisher is being told to play a certain way, I agree that if he constantly makes mistakes playing this way, he should be dropped, same as anybody else on the pitch, but it’s not like the other 2 keepers were pulling up trees when they played either.

Looking at the two of them objectively Benda is by far the better shot stopper and at coming to claim crosses and not being glued to his goal line (being like 6'8 counts for something eh?). In terms of pass distribution he is at least as good as if not better than Fisher in his ability to spray out passes with his feet.

What he lacks compared to Fisher is experience of when he can take that extra touch and when he needs to just get rid of the ball. Fisher has that experience having played for a couple of seasons the way that RM likes to play (including under RM himself) while the whole change in system is very new for Benda.

Birmingham way or Cheltenham/Forest Green maybe

Wolves were linked at one point weren’t they? Hope we get a fee of some sort which may be able to cover a RWB loan.

Webb be promoted to first team? Or that ex Arsenal lad?

Good point mate. We were in the market allegedly for a keeper earlier in the summer so surely losing Hamer and Benda would mean another to arrive?

I think it's a mistake but Russ knows what he's doing...

Well he bombed Lee Nicholls out at MK Dons then he ended up being 90 minutes away from premier league in play off final for Hudds, so as much as I’m a fan of Russ I don’t think he’s the oracle when it comes to keepers.

Benda looked awful with ball at his feet though and that was never going to work in a Martin side unfortunately.

Whereas a comedy goalie like Andy the Fish does? It’s madness. A goalkeeper is there to keep goal. Might as well put Grimes in goal…oh no, he’d keep passing it backwards…

Good luck to the lad. Bet he can't wait to get out of here and do what a keeper is supposed to do.

He’s a good keeper who’ll go on to play at a decent level.

I think that the reason people moan is because paying quite a lot for a keeper when you have two means you expect a certain something. It’s not his fault, but so far he hasn’t been impressive for the money. Hopefully he’s better this season, although yesterday didn’t give too much confidence to be honest. I would have kept Benda and spent the money elsewhere. We have a mania for getting new keepers in though. At all levels. Have done for years. Most of them have now left.
