• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

My 97 year old mam gets her first Covid jab this morning. When all this started back in Feb, I didn't think there was any chance of her making it this far tbh so massively relieved that she has and I'm sure the fact that she still lives in her own home has given her a much better chance. At 97 she was never going to be very far down the vaccination priority list. I hope its not too long before my 2 sisters get theirs too as they are her carers and both in their 70s and have done a superb job of shielding her.

Great news K, one of the reasons i questioned numbers is that i have parents living in Neath in their 90's and upto this morning havent heard a dicky bird. Just for curiosity did she have to travel for vaccine?

Anyway i think the boffins have done an amazing job along with the MCA in getting this rolled out next Monday 4th Jan. Thank god.

Thanks KK. Yes she did have to travel, one of my sisters drove her. They are still using the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in her area (Gateshead) so there are a limited number of jab centres with suitable storage capability. Maybe by the time your parents get the call, the Oxford/AstraZeneca stuff will be available in the Neath area and they might be able to have their jabs at home.

My brother in law’s mother is 99 and living in sheltered accommodation in Port Talbot. She hasn’t heard a thing about a vaccination yet.

Very good news. Should massively increase availability as AZ can produce 2 million doses per week. The others are more complex to produce. Hence cost and fewer available

Yeh Prof great news amazing, we know what it takes to get this up and running and is an amazing achievement for our Lab boffins who in my opinion are still the best in the world. All we need now is a good take up and roll out, and any anti vaccine lies stamped on immediately.

A few former colleagues have worked on the vaccine. Did a PhD viva with Andrew Pollard a couple of years back (on Salmonella vaccines). Extremely good scientist- much better than me!

Hope to get mine in March

In before a certain someone posts it :D https://twitter.com/Seana_Davis/status/1343992474268823552

Heard on the grapevine Prof that all of the list will hopefully be completed by the end of Q1.

Let’s hope so. Will mean a return to some normality. Can see masks on public transport for a long time though. And some distancing.

A question for you Prof regarding vaccinations, I assume people aren’t going to be tested before having a vaccination, if people have the virus but show no symptoms would the vaccination cause any problems for such people?

No. May slightly boost immune clearance, but more likely will have little effect

Loved JVT explanation when asked to explain if vaccine will fight new strain.

Another quick one for Prof...

When you upscale vaccine volume, do you just ratio the ‘recipe’ or do you have to modify?
