Energy Costs

I checked our utility bills only yesterday and saw we were comfortably £500 in credit. Today Eon emailed advising we need to increase our direct debit by £37 a month.

It's practically gaslighting.

Seems they are just guessing.
I'm also with Eon and have been paying £165 pm for the last year or so, am currently £370 in credit. Had a mail from them last week saying my payment was dropping to £142.

Must be utility bill time. British Gas were keeping £500 of my hard earned cash so a quick call (quick by BG standards) and it should be back in my account by the end of the week.

It looks like they might be going through accounts, checked the mail I had and that was from 16th.

I was going to call to tell them to leave it alone but I'll review things again come spring. Paying about 25% less on unit rate for gas than last year and tied in until next July.

I'm with Octopus. I was in credit and had requested two refunds in the last couple of months and they have dropped my dd to 166. I'm nearly £500 in credit but the heating is going on soon so expect the credit to disappear my the end of January. Have to keep an eye on it and we need a new boiler

I’m also nearly £500 in credit yet British Gas are still stinging me for £210 a month

Octopus. £600 in credit and just reduced to £120 / month.

Give them a call, they will arrange the rebate without any complexities. The call wait time today was sub 10 mins (0800 072 8625).

Ouch. Have you got a smart meter or do you submit regular meter readings?

Look at your previous energy consumption between November and March and keep in mind the drop in unit prices and you will see whether they are holding on to your money which they probably earn interest on.

We did ramp up our Bill's last winter for obvious reasons, but no where near what our energy companies wanted us to. I did have to do a couple of top ups to catch up, but that was it. We are now in credit in both. All they do is divide your expected yearly bill by 12, but in the real world it doesnt work like that, so they end up sitting on a shit ton of your cash. I rather pay them what I want to not the other way round, the cheeky twats. As long as you keep an eye out on you're usage and give regular readings, all should be fine.

I’m currently well up on where I normally would be, approximately £900 to the good which is as a result of keeping my monthly DD at the winter rate over the summer simply becaus3 I wasn’t sure what would happen with energy prices.
I’ve got an app on my phone which is linked to my meters and it tells me what my daily usage is. I’ve just reduced my DD to around £80 which should see the balance shrink quickly through the winter.
