Duff will have to make some of the same mistakes as the managers before him with getting to know the team he has available to him.
But I was surprised how familiar the first half team against Oxford looked, trying to fill the gaps with older players who really shouldn't be first choice.
Players who have seen us slide out of the Premiership and been unable to get us promoted.
Relying on the likes of Naughton,Grimes and Fulton to give us some experience to command games hasn't got us promoted but has stablised the team, time to move on and rely on the younger element to take a bigger role in the team.
Cory Smith, Connor Hourihane, Paterson, Ntcham, Fulton and Grimes, pick any combination of the three together in the middle of the park and none worked effectively together offering both defensive stability and forward impetus over the years.

Naughton was really just a back up last year in defence as the likes of Wood and Darling tried to get to grips with the Championship and should not be first choice this year.

Cooper gave us the legs to assist Piroe upfront and then was moved to left side to cover Manning's needed forward runs which also allowed Ntcham to move more centrally.

Ntcham and Piroe need better movement around them, Cooper, Cundle, Cullen , even Allen and Walsh when fit, offered that movement but also offered both a work rate to compliment Grimes and Fultons defensive qualities while offering support to the forwards, in Cullens case goals.
Grimes is not the future and Fulton cannot keep up the work rate he does to support him so needs help.
The manager will play it safe early on but will have to learn quickly how to fill the gaps in the team with new players signings or youth.

No I just compared the thread to a match day thread when we are losing at the beginning and win at the end.
But yes my point stands if people make up negative stuff that's harmful to the club and post it as fact that needs looking at.

I agree in theory, but at this point in time, how can you say for certainty who is making things up?

Currently, factually for example the clubs accounts have only received Morris' money. That may look negative, and others say that the club has got the rest of the investment, but officially, it hasn't.

What worsens things is that some on Twitter are strongly demanding for Duff's removal on the back of the 1-0 play off final defeat when Barnsley were down to ten men and the Oxford friendly.

Beyond belief

Yes that's fair comment but surely the club deserves the benefit of the doubt at least.

We have brought in a new manager 10 million £ worth of investment.
My view is there is more to come.
3 new players to date
A new chairman
And the most important announcement of all for me a new DOF.

Lets wait at least till the end of the transfer window before they are hung out to dry.

The constant spouting of negativity and OTT reaction to a friendly is counter productive.

Well giving the club the benefit of the doubt is a different issue to whats being discussed. Let's not forget the public talk before the winter window and what we ended up with. That's again fact, the only ones potentially making things up there were the club ownership.

So for incoming investment, id rather see it in writing from companies house.
Plenty of random Americans pop up periodically saying they've 'invested too remember, when in reality they haven't invested money into the clubs back account which is all we as fans care about.

Personally so far there isn't much to criticise the club itself for this summer, they've made very good appointments (although the Martin thing could have been wholly avoided by some more robust wording in the contract) and made some promising signings.

But we have lost / will be losing some very important players from a squad that already needed strengthening.

But this can change.

Going to be an interesting day today with the talk of 3 medicals being lined up.

Pederson
Ashby
Rushmore.
Are they the 3 or is the Ukranian striker a tentative approach but just talk at the moment.

Is he a replacement for Whittaker or Piroe.
Will soon find out I guess

Ashby isn’t one of them, the Ukrainian is. Ashby to be done later in the week apparently.

I think Newcastle are hoping to sign Southamptons RB so they can sanction the Ashby deal.
