Grimes Speaketh

My point was more a club decision.
The only hold they had was saying we won’t renew your contract in 3 (?) years time? That’s hardly a threat. They wouldn’t have paid him to not play. I’m more inclined to believe his team mates told him he was a problem. That would make life difficult for him, but Occam’s in play as JB said. Offer out of the blue…more money, longer contract, goodnight Irene.

Fairly obvious that something has gone on, and at this point I doubt the club would get shot of a long standing skipper to placate a manager on the outs himself.

Only thing that makes sense is that Grimes has pissed off someone higher up than Williams.

I really don't think there's much more to it than Coventry have, for reasons known only to them, decided to pay us £4m for a painfully average 30-yo CM who doesn't tackle, assist or score goals, and can't take set pieces. And I reckon even Luke Williams has probably said to Coleman, you'd be fucking mental not to take that mate.

ok long time planet swans lurker here but had to butt in as everyone seems to be overlooking this line from the article, and ok could be described as the usual platitudes you rain upon the club you just joined but on the other hand it could also be taken as a dig at the hierarchy at our club.

“I brought into this project purely because of the ambition and where I see this club going. It’s a team on the rise and I’m happy to be here and be a part of this project.”

is this why he annoyed someone in the higher ups, he was asking for more ambition from the club?

I wouldn't read too much in to it. These days it is just standard verbatim when a player signs for a new team.

Welcome to the forum, by the way 👍🏼

I reckon that he wanted to shave off his beard and get a perm and the club weren't happy so they bombed him out. Watch next week when he turns out for Coventry he'll look like a young Keegan.

yeah i agree thats probably all it is but putting that together with the rather muted statement from the club when he left i dont know, its probably nothing but who knows with our club.

ohh and thanks

It's hard to tell what is fact and what is fiction these days.

Hopefully he left because he's a greedy sod.

If Grimes really does believe his guff about joining a "team on the rise", he might want to have a look at what's happened to them since reaching the 2023 play off final. Clown.
