If Cooper leaves...Who takes over?

Any reason why most people seem to object to David Wagner?

If memory serves me correctly, he got Huddersfield promoted playing attacking attractive football on a smaller budget than us. He survived a season in the Prem before the almost inevitable happens when you're working under those financial constraints.

I think, maybe just for nostalgia, id prefer Rangel, but wouldn't be averse to Wagner.

I always remember Wagner’s teams playing good football and certainly a lot more entertaining than Mr Coopers style, but seen a few people on here suggest his style is very much the same as Cooper? I don’t see the similarities myself.

Think there was a lot of commentary back when Hudds were promoted that "they are the worst team to get promoted" and they also managed to do so by not even scoring a single goal in the three play off games and extra times!

Would he be better than Cooper? Who knows. Would he be my first choice? No. But then ask the fans of Palace whether they want Cooper and you'd find much the same answer

Always remember the likes of Martinez, Rogers and Laudrup talking about taking risks and showing confidence. We are the opposite now. Scared.

I think this is exactly right. Roberto and Brendan’s teams showed confidence by being brave in possession, trusting themselves and making things happen.

On Saturday we seemed to be trying to be “brave” and “committed” by flying into tackles without using our heads, which results in Grimes being lucky to avoid a red card in the first five minutes and Woodman giving away a penalty. Even after that there was very little in the way of positive football, it was just lumping it up to Ayew and Cullen and hoping for the best.

This is where the club should be brave and make the right appointment based on what we want to be on the pitch.

With crowds going to start returning to the games then even if Cooper was here next season it won't be fun to watch, even the two games we got to see this season were pretty dour affairs from our point of view as spectators

Couldn't agree more.

Problem is as I've alluded to before, I don't doubt that's what the club wanted when Cooper was appointed. There's no way he got the job if the way the team has played during his tenure is what he sold himself as providing. We need to be looking to replace Cooper with someone who has a verifiable track record of sending teams out to play decent stuff.

Kinda like the idea of Rangel managing us in the future, it has a ‘Martinez revisited’ ring to it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lampard will get a project soon, he did well at Derby, will draw young players in and give youth a chance, his one season at Derby wasn’t a disaster as he got them to the playoffs - playing some good attacking football.

Eddie Howe is an interesting concept, his style is great, he comes across as a man with a plan, but the financial constraints on our club wouldn’t be attractive enough for him, can imagine a West Brom type club to pick him up (willing to invest in players)

My personal choice would be - hands down - Chris Wilder, the way he got his Sheff Utd ripping into teams with a three pronged attack in the Championship was amazing, his first season in the PL was equally impressive. It all went Pete Tong last year though, with some poor acquisitions, underperforming players and terrible injury list, blades fans still stood by him even with poor results.I doubt very much we could offer him the project he’s looking for, but he’s the first manager I would call.

I think the links with Wagner and our chairman are clear and could be more of a lazy media link than anything else 🤷🏻‍♂️He took a good Shalke team down last year and got sacked, not the best recent form.

What’s Graham Jones up to these days? 😉

Not sure we are in position to gamble with a rookie Manager at this level .. it worked in L2 so we need someone to steer the ship whichever direction it is style wise.

Think he's still at Newcastle and is now part of the England set up for the Euros under Southgate

Surely you cannot be suggesting that Mr Birch got it wrong? Not Mr Birch who can do no wrong?

If Cooper is going to Palace, then we've had 2 managers poached by PL clubs in our 3 years back in the Championship. I would suggest we will be a very attractive position for managers with ambition, despite our financial constraints.

Exactly.
Even if a manager like Mike Flynn could see us as a stepping stone, it would be good for us and them
Better that than watching another season of Cooper style get a lead and try and sit on it

And Mr Curtis and Mr Britton who were both also involved in the process?

I saw Curtis in his private plate car being driven home on Saturday. Looked totally and utterly downhearted

Indeed they were although from what I know of Mr Birch that would have been to give a simple appeasing that would deflect blame away from him... not saying that is 100% the case but it wouldn't be far off a Trev tactic
