Kim Hellberg - Now’s the Time

Yes, but we're not playing about here are we.

All we've been hearing from the Sheehan Out brigade for weeks is how they're worried about relegation. They're all so concerned that that's where we're heading, despite our apparently brilliant transfer window.

So perhaps I'm alone here, but sacking the current incumbent then plonking a bloke in his place who has never even worked in English football, never mind the Championship, doesn't strike me as reducing risk of relegation. Does it?

We are aligned here. I do not think Sheehan definitely has to go now but I think he definitely is not the man long term. Personally, I would hope the club have started their search for his replacement and will be ready to make the move when the ideal candidate is available without having to rush or panic. If that is Hellberg, then fair enough, I know nothing about him and will have to see how it goes but I am under no illusion that he is a guarantee or an upgrade. Like you I have concerns, that only continue to grow, about the squad.

Not seen any of his teams but there was a lot of noise about him before we gave Sheehan the job.

I remember a few articles describing his style as vertical possession but with a purpose. I think Sunderland were looking at him before they appointed Le Bris so that’s a plus as they were a decent championship side at that time.

I also wouldn’t be opposed to someone with experience in the Championship but not one of the typical managerial merry go round.

Based on Widell and Inoussa I am taking any praise and hype about somebody from Sweden with an attitude of believing it when I see it.
They have hardly been played when players like Eom and Cullen do nothing but are almost automatic first choices. What’s your problem?

Inoussa has started Eight of the Fourteen league games he has been healthy for and Three of the Four cup games. Eom has started Seven league games and Two cup games. Cullen has started Six league games and Zero cup games. It is fair however to say that Widell has had limited chances.

Whatever happens, we need a tried and tested Championship manager. No more “let’s take a chance on a young, up and coming experiment”

Do you know what, this is actually a really good point.

The Sheehan Out brigade are not shy of telling all of us how the new owners have far more ambition and won't put up with so-called underachievement.

So, presumably, if the club do sack Sheehan that's where they'll be setting their sights, and they'll be happy to pay the big bucks for a tried and tested coach. And I trust the Sheehan Out brigade will be up in arms if they don't, and we end up with someone like Hellberg.

He gets my vote for next manager. He looks to be one of the most exciting coaches in Europe at the moment.

We were interested in him before and the Swedish league ends tomorrow so it makes sense that now would be a good time to go get him.

This article on him from a couple of years ago is an interesting read:

It's a yes from me 😀.

He's been mentioned on here a few times in the past. I would take a punt on an international manager. We have done lower leagues in Duff, Williams and Martin and we'll Sheehan. Now we need to go back to being adventurous again like we did with Laudrup. Or something. Maybe I'm looking for glits and glamour? But I just don't want a well proven league one manager. Give me something different.

If we do sack Sheehan and appoint him, I'll be keeping the receipts, put it that way. But no doubt all the people starting Sheehan Out threads will be very happy with another laptop coach.

Personally, I think it would be absolutely insane to parachute a coach from a third-rate league into probably the most competitive and evenly balanced Championship season in decades.
To be fair Sheehan doesn't come with any experience other than interim and back room staff and look how that is working out. I'm not saying this appointment would work but don't you feel we need to do something different? Not a lower league manager like a Duff, Williams or Martin and do somthing that is risky to some extent but may pay off? Anything is better than what we are seeing now. Surely.

It's as much as a gamble as keeping Sheehan on board but it's clear that things are not working with Sheehan presently.
We are pretty poor at the moment, we look non existent as an attacking force and don't seem to be breeding confidence not only with fans but with the players on the pitch also.

Sheehan is gonna have to go on well hell of a run of wins and performances now to get the fan base to get back on side. He had these games to do that. It's just not gonna happen. What makes it worse is, I am bored and don't feel excited now when watching. That kills me. I'll take a loss here or there. As long as we showed signs.

But that's my whole point. It could also get a damn sight worse. We are 7 points off relegation. It is still only November.

I get that the results haven't been great, and performances have been patchy, but the bordering on hate campaign to get him out of the job has been ridiculous imo. You could swear we'd come down from the PL with parachute cash, the way some people are acting.
