It was very difficult not to give the job to Sheehan going on his results. That's done now and Hellburg is coming. He's in the UK so id be surprised if there's not an announcement tomorrow. All we can do is get behind him and the team and hope to God it works out. I believe we have the players. Sheehan lost his way, lost the players and the fans. All I hope he's positive with the talent we have

Sheehan could organize a team into a solid shape - but had no clue how to disrupt and destroy everyone else’s solidity
I am sure he recognized the issue - just had zero ability to change it without sacrificing his beloved defensive structure.

The puzzling thing with Sheehan is he had us playing some decent stuff during his second sting as care taker.

I guess we'll never really know where it went wrong for him.

I’m not knowledgeable about the NFL but I thought that they have completely different teams on the field for attacking and defending?
Footballers, on the other hand, have both attacking and defensive roles on the field at all times from 1 to 11.

Club seems to be moving quickly with getting the replacement in which is refreshing. I'm guessing whoever the new person is they'll want to bring one or two friendly faces in with them.

I made a similar point shortly after he was sacked. I think he'd do a job at any Championship or lower club at coming in, straightening a defence up, and likely avoiding relegation, he just doesn't have anything long-term

We’ve had a chance to bring this bloke in and decided he wasn’t up to it. Not impressed.

What a rubbish statement. He was the favourite of the board, but they went with Sheehan because the fans were calling for him to get the job full time. With hindsight we wouldn't have gone with Sheehan, but who could have forseen the big change in tactics once he was given the nod. Rogers would be most people's choice, but unlikely to want to return. Helberg sounds a decent fit for us, and maybe a better bet than some of the journeymen mentioned.

It’s not me that doesn’t understand. I’m not saying the bloke is a dud, I would have been okay with him coming in the summer, but the board saw something they didn’t like, or some reason not to employ him. Don’t give me that baloney about Sheehan doing so well they had to give him the job, that would be nonsense if this Hellberg is the messiah that he is now being touted as. If Hellberg turned us down at the time for other reasons then fair enough, sometimes it’s just the timing that doesn’t work out but we were told the board preferred Sheehan. If he comes and does well I’ll be delighted but at the moment he’s second choice to a failure.

Yes but both departments are coached entirely differently with specialist coaching on one function.
I think Sheehan has proven that he is a decent defensive coach but totally inept as an innovative attacking mind.

It just feels to me like another potential appointment made off the back of fancy stats and heatmaps, like with Martin and Williams. We're taking a risk on a coach whose numbers may stand up to a certain extent but, crucially, at an inferior standard to the division we're in.

Look at Tim Walter and Johannes Thorup from last season - parachuted in from nowhere, struggled, got sacked. Going back a bit further you had Duff with us. Bulut at Cardiff came with the sort of narrative now surrounding Hellberg, but we know how that ended.

Sorry to put a downer on things but to me, it just feels like an enormous and unnecessary risk of making the same mistakes we've made previously.

Personally, the candidates who I'd prefer but would likely have to convince:

Bruno Lage
Brendan Rodgers (doubt we could afford)

Wicky I believe turned down W Brom because his backroom staff couldn’t get Visa
