Just in Swansea.

Football, Senior League down to three divisions.

Swansea Sunday League (gone years ago)

Rugby. Sides in the West Wales Region thant cant raise a first 15

Cricket. Swansea Civil Service CC about to disband after over 100 years.

And many more gone the same way, North End anyone.

What are kids doing nowadays for fun.

Doom scrolling and Playstation😔👍

I’ve watched a few Ardal South games this season. I love watching grass roots football and there’s no getting away with it, it’s far more enjoyable than anything the swans are churning out at the moment.

Funnily enough I went to watch a game in the West Wales Premier League, today. Cost me £3 to get in, the bastards. 3 goals and two red cards though, so plenty of action.

Watching the Ospreys playing at the Brewery Field.

Mouldy old tents behind the post being flooged as "coperate entertainment"

Makes a change from the back of a lorry trailer i suppose.

This one is down to the WRU in fairness I suppose. 🤣

I’d argue that it’s more what are ‘adults’ doing rather than kids. All 3 sports you mention still seem to have as many teams as they always did at age group level.

There’s definitely a drop off at 17/18 - I’d imagine because people that age got fed up with a lot of the nonsense that went with local football on the field and local rugby off the field. With cricket they probably didn’t fancy 3 hours in the field and batting at 9/10/Jack every Saturday 😂

The biggest drop off in participation (compared to 20 years ago) must be in the 20-35 age bracket. Variety of factors there - I’d imagine the reasons I gave above, together with much more of a gym/running/cycling culture have played a part.

When I played in the senior league, way back in the 1800’s 🙄, there were six first team leagues and six reserve leagues as well as Thursday league ( I think it was called the Industrial League) and a Sunday league.
Cricket, we played week day games (evenings) and a Saturday league.
There were so many squash leagues in various different clubs and the leisure centre, badminton leagues, the Swansea table tennis league and 2nd teams.
Obviously a great set of rugby leagues. What has happened to them all?
Glad I had the choices I had when in my teens and later.

Also if the Swansea Civil Service cricket team need players I’m quite happy to dust off my old pads and oil up my 54 year old mangled knees along with my slow off breaks. There will not be many scrambled singles mind.

You can play like Geoffry Boycott, leave it hit you and don't run

Don’t know anything about the politics but I think they’re just being merged into Swansea CC as they’re being relocated from St Helen’s to Sketty Lane as part of the development (if it actually goes ahead) - sure you’d be welcomed either way though!

Edit:
Looking at last years tables it appears that Civil Service had 3 teams in the South Wales league

Swansea CC also had 3 senior sides by the looks of things, albeit their fist XI finished bottom of the top division of the Premier League

It’s very sad.

You can’t beat playing competitively. I miss those days.

Play as long as you possibly can.

More interested in their bloody phones. It should be big news this. So important for mental and physical health.

Swansea City 🦢 v QPR 🔵⚪
