• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

It’s very sad.

You can’t beat playing competitively. I miss those days.

Play as long as you possibly can.

More interested in their bloody phones. It should be big news this. So important for mental and physical health.

Except as pointed out earlier in this thread, participation in youth sports seems to be thriving, it's when people become adults that it drops off. Technology has obviously changed vastly over time and of course parents should consider how to handle screen time, but this idea that kids are all stuck in all day in front of screens is something older people have concocted in their heads.

Back in the day and during late spring/early autumn we would try and cram Carmarthenshire League, local rugby and local cricket league all into one day. The youth of today don’t have the same options, and perhaps the same outlook.

30 years ago, the Swansea Senior League was the second-biggest local league in the United Kingdom. To see how it's been decimated to what it is now is heartbreaking.

During the football season I'd play Saturday and Sunday, train Monday and Thursday, and five-a-side was Wednesday. Summertime cricket would be Saturday and Sunday, then industrial league during the week. Best time of my life.

Yeah, I watched about 6 Ardal League games last season, they should move to a summer league though, same as the Welsh prem.. they'd see increases in attendances, and the food is cheaper and better than crap at the .com
Its being spoken about very seriously. The women will be guinea pigs next year im hearing

I think Mooney was very keen but there was lots of push back from the clubs.

Would be interesting where they’d draw the line in the pyramid now they’ve genuinely got one, or whether they’d look to move it all on block - including junior football?

I’m struggling to believe this. I’d love that to be the case. My guess is a lot more eg girls playing football etc. But overall I’d be very very surprised if this is the case.

I live in hope that is the case mind. A lot of the blimps walking round are in that 25-40 bracket mind. So maybe there’s something in it.

The Cymru app suggests there are 20+ teams in the Swansea Junior league at under 13s, under 14s and under 15s which is more than there were in the 90s.

The leagues are split into two divisions, so I guess they may play slightly less games now - although not playing 3 times a week in September & April because of the weather/postponements through the winter probably isn’t a bad thing.

Hard to quantify numbers at lower age groups as it’s no longer 11-a-side football from under 8 upwards as it was back then - which is definitely a good thing 😂

Encouraging!

A few clubs now also have more than one team at some age groups cos of the participation numbers.
