Martin Southampton

We ended up in a similar position with Cooper - that one worked out with luck because of the "mutual consent but compo due if a side comes in for him within his last year" clause. If it means give or take 1.5m more in the transfer kitty for the new man (compo plus no payout for sacking RM) then it will just mean all the more an even more critical summer coming up and the new powers having very precious little time to do their homework.

Don't hold your breath. If there's a net £1.5M more in the kitty, what percentage of that will be made available for squad strengthening?

I think it depends on the squad that he inherits. He didn't have the players here to match his system, then failed to adapt the system and you know the rest. Southampton may well already have the correct pieces of the jigsaw.

his system doesn't work. fin.  In what way do you think his system can work ?

it's a losing system. which is why nobody else has played it, nor ever will play it.

the sole objective of his system is to win the % stats and for him to tout his cv. he is all about touting himself. his pressers are all about him touting himself, at all costs, deflecting blame on all and sundry.

if he hadn't been coerced into changing his losing system, we were toast. his career was toast. he woke up, and smelled the toast.

thankfully, now he is toast.

a toast to that.

I wonder what Southampton players will think when he tells them his system will tire out the opposition and don’t worry about winning it’s all about the performance.

If they aren't top 3 by xmas he's a gonna. And xmas is probably stretching it.

Nah, I don’t agree with that at all. More often than not we were our own downfall because we have a crap backup keeper and a couple of defenders who struggle to pass water. Have more suited players in those positions alone and there’s a comfortable playoff position guaranteed.

It was frustrating to watch at times as he stubbornly put us in the position to repeat mistakes, but I suspect he’ll do better at S’ton if they retain some of their better players. We could easily end up doing worst without him as whoever comes in is working with one hand tied behind their back with these owners.

Definitely, I think he’d do well but only if he was given time like he has here, no way imo he’s getting them top 3 by Christmas so he’ll be out of work before he knows it.

Yep, Saints are now one of those clubs who've developed the sacking bug. Russ will probably morph into a journeyman manager. His stubbornness to change and lack of self awareness will cost him going any further.
But why should we now give a shit?

But why should we now give a s**t?

I remember the run we had early on the season then he changed back to original tactics and plan and we got battered against Burnley away, he admitted fault in the fans forum for that and said he apologised to the players, but yet he done the same thing again and gave us a dreadful run of games, all down to his stubbornness, he’ll do the same at Southampton imo.

Has the f****r actually gone?

No.

The ball is currently in Russy’s court on this and he intends to pass it around between his agent, his solicitor and himself for at least three weeks before he tentatively moves forward on the matter.

Bugger. They'll mess about with it and it'll be a spectacular injury time own goal.
