Martin Southampton

Yeah, he’d never have gone to Soton otherwise. Oh, and he definitely didn’t interview with Soton instead of going to America. Definitely the yanks that cancelled by email. If he says it, it must be true. After all, he’d never bullshit to make himself look good. Never. 🤣🤣🤣

It’s like a soap this is all the different scenarios and who’s lying  it wouldn’t surprise me if the Americans decided they didn’t want to keep him on and it wouldn’t surprise me if Russ asked for a move, whichever one it is, he’s off and we’ll have a new manager come August….maybe.

The truth will be prosaic I’m sure. He’s like every manager and player. He wanted a better contract until a better opportunity in the hierarchy came along. Then like a shot, he’s gone. Where he is different is his PR game has made his public reputation 10 times his achievements.

Meanwhile the Americans have no planning or football bones in their bodies. Not sure how they’ve done anything in business neither really. Anyway, it’s all last minute Yankee ‘hardball’ f**kwittery. With Martin, rightly or wrongly (I think rightly) they weren’t in the least bothered.

He may well succeed at Soton with players that can play his kamikaze nonsense and keep the ball (in the championship, anyway) doing nothing for even longer, or, like Cooper he may change his style and quietly ditch his process while claiming it’s still the process. I think he’s so stubborn it’ll look much the same, so he’ll need a better goalkeeper and back 3.

At least he'll get a pre season at Saints.
If he fails what excuses could he have?
It's a process that will take time? Players adjusting to Championship style?
I'm sure he'll have a few more up his sleeve.

Look at Mark Robins record at Coventry. Every year he built and improved on the previous year. We’re never going to be a team who enjoys the instant success so many on here crave as we simply don’t have the funds. Luton are another example of how you can build a squad of players over years on a minimal budget. Everything RM has built this far (and there has been clear progress whether the twonks on here will admit it or not) is now about to be ripped up and we’re back to square one of a threadbare squad and small budget. If anyone thinks a new guy will bring instant success, you’re mistaken. All you impatient little rats will be calling for his head after 10 games no doubt.

Don't expect instant success mate and our strong finish moved me from wanting Russell out to wanting him to still be our manager going into next season. New contract though? No chance had he earned that.

Robins at Coventry and Luton are interesting comparisons. Robins has done a fine job, no doubt. Nathan Jones would get a lot of credit for Luton's success, yet he was tempted to Southampton and his replacement did far better with the same players. Would be lovely to see a repeat of that scenario wouldn't it?

About a season and a half too late but better late than never, bloke was a total fraud and I'm glad to see the back of him but it's right to say that the root of all our problems at the moment is the owners.

Correct, the owners are certainly not helping. But have said for ages that our squad was good enough to get top 6. It was a piss poor league this year, and results at start and end showed what they were capable of. Trouble is....Russ totally fckd it up for 3/4 months. Saints will sack him by xmas if/when they are mid table.

Why has no one bigger poached Tommy Tank? He and Hounslow have done an incredible job.

Not bothered about Soton.
However will watch with great interest how he does.
Who will he sign from us if he's given the cash from Ward Prowse sale?
Grimes, Piroe and Wood?

Fisher, deffo.

That is a good question. Perhaps Potter at Chelsea has put teams off bringing in a manager overachieving at a 'small' club. Or maybe it's his bug eyes.

He's done a brilliant job there though, can't deny that.

I've read the other forum and it's amazing what Martin has done to the fan base, they think we'll be losing the spine of the team.. Fisher, have you ever seen a keeper that makes the amount of errors he does, he makes about two a game.. CB, Cabango and Wood, a CB partnership that has been roasted by average championship plodders weekly.. Grimes our captain fantastic who has been clogging up our midfield for 5 years failing to cajole our team to be a serious threat in this league with negative sideways and backwards stuff.. Piroe, I'll admit we'll probably miss.. but if Southampton come in for all 4 and Martin for 15-20m I'll actually be jumping around the room and we might actually look like a serious threat in this league again..

Martin to Southampton? I'll start the car.

I'll say it again, apart from taking the Cardiff games seriously Martin offers little else.

All I'll say is Southampton can't half pick them! Nath and now Russ fackinell! They are going for the nuclear option of going for broke to go straight up. It's worked for the likes of Burnley, Fulham and Bournemouth but I'm scratching my head here and thinking what the fack is it that has possessed them, based on his track record in his four years in management to think he's the man to do it? Then again it's the same people who appointed Nathan Jones a matter of months ago, ignoring the red flags of Stoke. I cannot for the life of me see him having anywhere near the consistency to go top two. Going out of the season I thought maybe we could sneak into the playoffs if he'd have stayed, but for a team like Southampton going for broke and throwing the financial kitchen sink at it, I'd have thought Russ would be way off their radar.
