Martin Southampton

All I'll say is Southampton can't half pick them! Nath and now Russ fackinell! They are going for the nuclear option of going for broke to go straight up. It's worked for the likes of Burnley, Fulham and Bournemouth but I'm scratching my head here and thinking what the fack is it that has possessed them, based on his track record in his four years in management to think he's the man to do it? Then again it's the same people who appointed Nathan Jones a matter of months ago, ignoring the red flags of Stoke. I cannot for the life of me see him having anywhere near the consistency to go top two. Going out of the season I thought maybe we could sneak into the playoffs if he'd have stayed, but for a team like Southampton going for broke and throwing the financial kitchen sink at it, I'd have thought Russ would be way off their radar.

I'm not sure it's going to work out for him there. Majority of fans think it shows a lack of ambition.

The way he wants to play will take too much time to implement, he won't get the time needed.

This is seeming like the due diligence of a side who realised two months ago they were going down, decided last month they wouldn't keep their caretaker manager and so looked for the form managers in the championship at the time. They probably saw the Norwich game and decided they didn't need to watch any more matches and had found their man.

Good article on the Athletic talking about how the club has been all about gegenpressing since Hassenhuttl was hired, with that influencing who they signed and how their youth teams played, etc. Apparently Ruben Selles was hired because his preferred style of play is very similar.

Article reckoned that they don't have the players to switch to a possession-based game and Martin would need plenty of time if they're going to make it work. Burnley managed it though, so who knows?

If something happened and he didn't go to Southampton, I can't see how he could stay at Swansea after Silverstein's twee.

Play em first game, play a high press he's fckd. Cue the gifts we'll get.

Has he officially gone yet then ? Hope there are no last minute hiccups.

He’s gone either way, wether that’s taking over Southampton or being let go (which I think was their intentions anyway)

The Swans hierarchy are currently looking for a new roll of fax paper.

I think it depends on the squad that he inherits. He didn't have the players here to match his system, then failed to adapt the system and you know the rest. Southampton may well already have the correct pieces of the jigsaw.

Well he did adapt, just took too long changing to a four for me.

Wow so we only have to pay Southampton 400k to take him, bargain.

IF reports circulating the club were looking to offload him at the end of the season, then instead of paying Martin off between £500k and £1m (based on an alleged salary of between £10k and £20k per week) the club cash flow will be to the good instead of in the red.

I just hope the powers that be font mess it up playing hardball, Southampton then walk away and the club ends up putting him on gardening leave and eventually paying him off.

We ended up in a similar position with Cooper - that one worked out with luck because of the "mutual consent but compo due if a side comes in for him within his last year" clause. If it means give or take 1.5m more in the transfer kitty for the new man (compo plus no payout for sacking RM) then it will just mean all the more an even more critical summer coming up and the new powers having very precious little time to do their homework.
