Can't say I have the same man crush as some have on Russ.
Some believe he would have had us on the cusp of the playoffs this year instead battling at the foot.
However with bang average or lower average players in our squad we are where we are on merit and I believe we would be no different under him.

Russell Martin is taking on saint like status, just like saint Michael of Laudrup has.

Fans are proper weird.

Southampton are a far bigger club than us. That's the issue we will always have, managers leave for more ambitious clubs.

There seems to be some kind of theme going on on Twitter and many other circles that you're either pro Martin or pro Owners, and it's driving me nuts. That the owners have made many poor decisions in their time is beyond doubt, but surely you can be critical of Martin too. Let's not forget that we were on a worse run of results this time last year than we are now. Let. That. Sink. In. This great man according to many was doing worse this time last year than a sacked manager and a caretaker - how many games did we go without a win again?

He did passing, a lot of it, but is that all the Swansea Way is about? Just passing, often, if not mainly, without purpose is not what brought us success. Brenda and Martinez had rules about not having more than one backwards pass in succession, not this bollox of passing for passing's sake. Never under Martinez, Brenda and Laudrup did I see a keeper being put under pressure so often from a gk as we were last season. It was pure bollox from the crown price of bollox himself. So I'll reserve the right to criticise our owners and the snake oil salesman former manager all at once thank you very much.

'The Swansea Way' - This tickles me as well.

But I guess it means different things to different people. For the majority of my time supporting this club, we were never a passing / possession side (if that is what is 'The Swansea Way' refers to. From what I remember, we only started down that road when Martinez took the reins.

I also remember lots of fans hated it at the time as Martinez bedded it in and we had teething problems. I think he maybe even asked for patience at one stage.

Exactly. People have very short memories.

I remember season before ,did he not do well and did he not give us the double, and did he not struggle to get decent funding.
U could put pep or klopp on any other manager in a team with no funding and they can only do with what they have
Rm did wonders and the fact he turned it around last year shows his quality as a young manager
Whats your excuse for Cooper then as again did great job with what he had to work with
Problem is fans are pathetic and have no idea on the situation behind the scenes
At no point have we been this lost and bad since before out raise 15 years back

I got no opinion on Cooper, apart that he bottled the play off final.
The question was about Russ, and any manager that can only muster 2 wins in 23 games ( that cost us a place in the top 6) doesn't deserve to be lauded over in any shape or form.

And did he not give us hours and hours of verbal bullshit.

Brighton, home. 0-0. End of September. Booing and mass moaning.

With "decent funding" he would have bought Sorinola instead of settling for a loan, he said as much at the time. We lost £20m in his first season in charge. You're right that most fans have no idea of the situation, they think we're still in the PL and should be capable of spending millions on every player the manager fancies even when most of the ones he does buy end up not good enough. Turned his nose up at Whittaker. Constantly fell out with Obafemi and Paterson. "Worked wonders with no funding" pull the other one, Russell. Plenty of managers in the Championship did more, with less, much faster than he did.

Some of our fans behave like love sick teenagers. It really is laughable.

‘Ooh, he really cares about us’

‘ ooh, he hardly celebrated’

Pathetic,

Opposition manager spends the week engaging in Fergie style mind games to create disharmony and weaken the opposition before he plays them at home in huge match. Succeeds (we had so called supporters hoping they’d win for God’s sake).

After the match again tries to disrupt (ooh, he love the supporters - yeah right, that’s why he’s causing as much chaos as possible because that doesn’t hurt the supporters at all does it).

‘He loves our players’ - that’s why despite the most obvious begging you could imagine from the likes of Grimes he didn’t sign them.

And while we’re at it, if he loves the club so much why not attempt to get his current employers to spend money on compensation to us for his services.

He’s as self serving and narcissistic as he was when he was here. It’s all about making himself look good and sod anything else.

He’s doing well there as they have an unbelievably strong squad for this division and he seems to have learnt his lesson a bit and plays in a very different way now to what we saw for much of last year. Good luck to them. I’ve no issue with how he does - I didn’t like him with us as he refused for far too long to play a sensible way with what we had. When he finally gave up his process we went on a great run. If he’d been less stubborn we may have had a play off chance.

Whatever happens, for the love of God, I wish some of our fans would stop with the crush - it’s ridiculous.

Let’s see how the small posse of Martin fans answer this.
