I like Grimes more than most, but surely even his cynics can rationalise that losing your captain - a man that plays literally every minute for the side - with four days of a transfer window left is absolutely insane?

He is objectively better than the alternatives we have at the club, and no-one responsible for transfers has proven themselves even remotely adequate at finding a replacement. This would be complete madness (unless the fee is extraordinary, which I can't imagine).

Not great when our captain and manager have both been linked to sideways moves. Let’s see if Grimes does the come get me plea like Williams. I can’t for a second believe that they are already bidding without knowledge that he’s keen.

Can only see the positives for us as a club if he moves on.

Quite possibly the worse captain I've seen at the club in all the years I've been following us.

Ask yourself how come he's available for every game?

Sure this will lead to some rational debate
Giving the timings it would be a no from me. However, if the price was right and we had a decent young replacement lined up then I would not be devastated. Grimes has served us well but has unfortunately become a bit of a crutch for players passing it to him instead of taking riskier ones, which is a large part of why we play such slow drab football imo.

But who replaces him? Not as captain, but as a starting midfielder? Your options are a crocked Joe Allen or an even more crocked Jay Fulton. You can have a few minutes to decide

Anyone.

It would be quite nice to see a team without the shackles of Captain Fantastic playing as quarter back passing sideways, slowing the pass of the game down and completely wasting every set piece we get.

The club might need to set up a hotline for the Grimes fan club, a bit like they do when a leading member of a boyband leaves to purse a solo career.

I agree with the second part of your message, and I think Grimes has been mismanaged to an incredible degree, but there's not a single piece of evidence that we can replace him. It took us three and a half weeks to sign a centre-back on loan, the likelihood of us replacing Grimes before the end of the window is so small.

The one positive this could bring is if we spread the (presumable) £5-6m cost into three or so great prospects. Just cannot see that happening. I'd love to be wrong.

Whatever your opinion of Grimes leaving is, it's just another downward trajectory for the club as a whole.

I fully expect us to be in a relegation scrap at the end of the season and wouldn't be surprised if we are relegated.

I'm not bothered if we sign a replacement or not, just want shot of him.

Can't agree he has been mismanaged at all, the lad does what he wants.

There is no evidence purely based on the fact he plays every single minute of every single game. The fact is with him in the side we're languishing in 17th place.
