Said it before, if we ever could sell Grimes, we should.

I don't think the current situation is healthy - not for him, nor our team. A fresh start somewhere else would probably do him the world of good, and for us it would surely force some of our other players to take some responsibility for a change, instead of shifting it all on to him as captain by passing to him 100,000 times a match expecting him to do it all. As happens far too often.

Cabango especially is guilty of doing this at times. Not as often as previous seasons, but it seems that when we’re under the cosh so to speak, it becomes far more noticeable. At least Dalling now has the initiative to bring the ball out himself at times, by passing Grimes.

That requires someone interested in signing Matt Grimes. Thus far those have been thin on the ground, even when they could have had him for free.

That's as maybe, but far too often he slows things down and is too ponderous. If the passes into the final third are happening too slowly, they become so easy to read. I'm not writing him off, but quite often he needs to be less negative. He's decent at Championship level, but I feel that this division is his sealing. A good player, but never a great player

As I have lost track of reality I had to google who she was. No complaints and a deserved winner even though I didn't watch it as the last few years have seen this show slide down the my personal list of important things.

Grimes is far more impactful a player when he isn't dropping in between the centre halves as a third defender, even more so when not playing with Fulton who never gives him an out ball option in that situation.

It is difficult to truly judge him since he has made that holding midfielder position his own and hasn't had any meaningful competition for his position in the last five or six years.

What you cannot fault with him is his fitness levels, not only does he rarely ever miss a game but he is also very rarely if ever subbed off due to fatigue and if so usually only ever for tactical reasons.
Was Flynn Downes real or just a dream?

Guy at the game yesterday tried to convince me that he was doing it under orders, which I don't buy. It mostly seems to happen in the games where we're struggling. Whether we struggle because he does it, or whether he does it because we're struggling is up for debate, but either way it never helps the situation.
It’s almost as if when we’re overrun, he has to drop deeper to get the ball ;)

The biggest problem we have is the massive hole ahead of him. I assume this is why we’ve seen Key moving infield more lately. It would be nice if the CBs started more moves off, but when we’ve got Cabango you can see why Grimes drops deeper. It makes us very predictable though. The opposition don’t have to worry about him on the edge of our box.

He doesn't have to drop deeper to get the ball. He chooses to. Big difference. Not all his fault, but a major problem all the same.

The point is that as a team we've basically been set up to play to his strengths for most of the past five or six years and you can count the number of games that he's dictated on the fingers of two hands. He's capable of being a major player. He rarely is, but somehow shallow thinkers laud him all the same.

I've seen people compare his performances to Leon's, which is almost as big an insult to Britton as gobbing directly into his face.

Revealing to see which of our current crop of posters are twp enough to fly their ‘ I clearly know nothing about elite level CM play’ and bash Matty.

First pick for yonks, for all the right reasons.

The last remaining shred of glue to bond us to our playing identity.

Bonkers how so many of our online fans are so clueless, so lacking in basic football intelligence, insight and analysis. It’s as if they’re watching an entirely different sport to us football intelligentsia, Risc.
Utter bullshit. He can’t hold a candle to Leon or Ferrie Bodde. A player so arrogant and lazy he has never tried to use his right foot at all which would definitely make him a better player.

When he was coming up on a free NOBODY wanted him. Downes on the other hand had one season with us and went for 12 million having accrued the highest successful passing rate of any player in all 4 divisions. If we’d sold him and kept Downes we’d be in a far better position now as a football team.

He’s a club man because his wife and kids are settled here and he is happy just to stay playing for Swansea until he’s 40 and retires, just going through the motions. He has no ambition for himself and none for the team. He’s the type of co worker found in many industries- loves to pipe up and say the “right” things then disappears to let the grafters do the work. Pass sideways and backwards and hide between the centre halves like some office worker popping out for a crafty fag.

Not a massive fan of Grimes then?...

When he goes into that centre back position, it really does my head in. Lazy management by Williams, who obviously doesn’t trust Cabango or Darling to bring the ball out of defence.
When Grimes goes there, half the time it leaves us with practically a one man midfield.
This happened against Sunderland for the majority of the game, when you consider who else was in midfield. Peart-Harris? Cullen?
I feel really sorry for our best player on the park, Franco, who ran himself into the ground (whoever sourced him, get another one!)
I will be amazed if no one comes in for him come transfer window time.
One of the only times I’ve seen Grimes being dare I say the word dynamic, was when Oli Cooper, Franco and him were in midfield.
It seemed to release Grimes into actually going forwards.
So, when you saw our bench on Saturday, who would have replicated Oli Cooper’s style?
Answer- no one.
Question- who did we have?
Fulton and Abdulai.
I rest my case ma Lud.

Yes, we do fixate on using him wherever possible. Which seems a bit strange considering he’s rarely in a position to do any damage. That possibly says as much about the lack of quality in the rest of the team.
