Then why, as club captain in particular, doesn't he do it every week?

Stop avoiding the question
He’s been doing this under a number of guises and Downes was his primary target while he was here. Obviously the transfer of Downes for mega money made him look a tw*t. Maybe he is Grimes himself, if he can find the time between playing for us and his role in Gavin and Stacey

I have a theory that Grimes just wants to end his career here. He doesn’t want to excel as that would mean transfers and moving away. He does the minimum to keep the team ticking over but he’s not interested in success. He just wants to stay here under the radar but that is the exact opposite of what we need. He also is a good boy for every manager - it would be interesting to see how he’d respond to being benched.
Not one of those managers have wanted to take him to their new clubs tell us all we need to know about Captain Fantastic.

It worked to perfection vs QPR - when Williams was excluded and our players played to a proper script with our proper captain leading the way, in the right way.

Both Key and Tymon contributed highly effectively in the inside triangles and tucked back out when it needed it - the triangles were a massive blast from our very best past - it is SO the wtg - the players know it, the proper fans know it and the proper management team totally now get it.

Grimes was the tactical genius who strategized it and executed it - with massive aplomb.

Some fans really ought to think, before they type.

So LW is forcing Grimes to not lead and be a coward?

Grimes a tactical genius yet he plays as either a goalkeeper/centre back or a right back

Bloke is undoubtedly a scum WUM

I think you're spot on.

He's in a comfort zone. He's not challenged in any way, nor does he challenge anyone else to be better around him. He's got a cushy little number on the go, and any manager who wants more than mediocrity is going to find that the shutters are down when it comes to dealing with Grimes.

Remember that scene from Alien when they knock off ash's head and he spews out grapes and sour milk. That's how Grimes would respond.

I wish the Grimes lovers would explain this.

How is it that in 7 straight seasons playing largely in central or defensive midfield he has NEVER been injured if he’s genuinely putting it all out there every match, being combative, going for 50:50 balls, even 60:40 balls in his favour, putting his body on the line for us.

It is simply not possible that he’s doing anything other than making sure he’s never risking anything. Some players are better at avoiding injury, Ashley Williams was one, but to never ever be hurt is impossible as a midfielder if you’re giving 100%.

Every season he’s playing every single match. He may have missed one per season with a cold but that’s it. Have a look.

Great post and one I thinking you'll be waiting for a longtime to get answered.

They'll just tell you it's not his job to put himself about and win the ball back, that's someone else's dirty work to do. Statty is there to do what he does best, ball retention and being neat and tidy and MVP-ish. That kind of graft is beneath him.

Yeah, but his goals and assists record for the same seven seasons (including this one which is half a season) is absolutely awful as well. Particularly when you consider he takes our penalties and virtually all free kicks.

The more you look at his actual record the more obvious it is that he’s actually adding nothing to the team. Unless passing 5 yards to centre backs is an actual thing that we need.

He doesn't make tackles, rarely heads the ball and flits about in no man's land between the centre backs and midfield, I'm suprised his kit needs washing most games.

Zero knocks to the thigh, zero dead legs, zero bruised ankles, and all the other things picked up by a midfield dynamo.

Yeah, I mean nothing. Ever.

Obviously I wouldn’t want him or any other player to pick up any serious injury, but to never even miss two or three games in a season because of a knock is showing he is marking time in the pitch.

The thing is, all the things Lisa's original post and Swanjaxs and Cooperman have pointed out above are entirely true, but those things are non-quantifiable in the world of the stat-obsessed laptop wankers we've got currently running the club.

If you can't measure it on a spreadsheet, then it doesn't exist.

I don't doubt for a minute Grimes himself knows this.
