Met police officer charged over Everard murder

It certainly points to some shocking policing if it’s true he was reported for indecent exposure and several days later was working.

Let’s hope that this horrific situation is not made even worse if that’s possible by them allowing him to kill himself.

There needs to be a separate enquiry about the police response to the first incident, and I’m sure there will be.

I believe it’s already been referred.

My other half always has some sort of protective means on her, she doesn't know decent self defense so I insist she has pepper spray/mace with her, and if I am to one day have a daughter, she will have the same.

They shouldn't need it, but men are biologically stronger than women, and I feel that abuse of power will always exist in the biological depths of our bodies, of course most of us are psychologically stable enough that it is never a problem, but where there are psychopaths, they will always target those weaker then them, which statistically, is more likely to be a man against a woman.

I don't know how you change that.

Both of those things are illegal are they not?

Yeah don't carry pepper spray or mace, those are considered firearms. A normal body spray to the eyes or just a sharp blow from a set of keys is as effective.

In the UK, yes.

Met not looking good here, lets be honest they are a right wing organisation, don't get me wrong of course there are decent coppers out there I worked with a lot of them, but from my role as a union rep the organisation is horrific and no they haven't learnt from the McPherson report, the fact they were up in arms for being branded institutionally racist said enough

Dreadful scenes from London and what looks like a complete misjudgement of the events that were planned. A lack of upfront engagement with the organisers seems to be a contributing factor and the chaos descended from there. The family of Ms. Everard will be heartbroken to see this.

There seems to be a massive problem in the UK where everybody, that’s everybody including the police and general public seem to think they can do whatever the f*ck they want.
If you watched and listened to the news yesterday every channel on tv and radio was saying that there’d been meetings between the police and organisers of the vigil and the police had said that because of COVID regulations the vigil should not happen.
I find the fact that it then happened interesting.
Why did it happen when the police said it shouldn’t happen?

Reclaim These Streets are claiming that they called off the official event due to a lack of engagement from the police. Their argument was that an organised event would have been better controlled than the melee that followed with the subsequent gathering, which of course was always likely to happen and backs up your point.

The original organised event was cancelled. The spontaneous vigils that happened anyway were incredibly badly policed. They should have let an organised event go ahead with proper controls, distancing et al. Then there wouldn’t have been an issue.

The police said it shouldn't go ahead for obvious reasons, the organisers choose to ignore, however, the fact still remains that it went ahead, and it decended into chaos, would it not have been better to let the vigil, carry on, without incident, possibly.
This is a PR disaster for the Met, it will cause outrage and hurt to the family, I don't know how this is going to end, it could backfire big time. I'm not defending either side, just saying it as I see it.
