New European League Announced Tonight

Imagine how boring it would be...these 'massive' fixtures are interesting because they happen rarely. It'll make money of course from fans of these clubs from around the world, but it'll be shite for 'proper' fans.

There’s a mistaken belief that a fan in Thailand, or the US is the same as a fan from, say, Finsbury Park supporting Arsenal.

They may pay the same for a stream, or for a shirt for that matter, but they won’t necessarily have kids who also support Arsenal, and grandkids who do, and nieces and nephews who do. They are just as likely to support Chelsea, or Juve. And even the one who’s a fan of Arsenal now may well lose interest when something else comes along. The bond is nowhere near as strong.

It’s the Glazers behind all this it seems with the other American owners at Liverpool and Arsenal. With Woodward and his ex colleagues at JP Morgan driving the financing.

Great post.

Fkn money grabbing Yankee rsoles with absolutely no respect or understanding of how European football works or its history and fans, epitomised by that cnt Glazer. This would tear the game apart. Players denied playing for their countries . What kind of 'player' would agree to that? Am gobsmacked that any teams have signed up for this inane, insane debacle.

Have they seriously signed up a team who’ve just been relegated from the Bundesliga?

Lol.

Sheffield Utd will be waiting by the phone...

Just reading something that says that each of the pigs will get 3.5 Billion euros in their troughs to start up and offset Covid. But also that they would like to continue with their home leagues in addition? So is this their idea to replace the champions league? I can't be bothered to read it all as it makes my blood boil with this big 6 bullshit. They are only big at the moment. If Sheiky Stevens put his oil fortune into bloody Burnley and bought the Man City team, would they then be big 6? Or more to the point West Ham, with their massive stadium.

Tottenham? Chelsea? Utter bullshit. Entitled greedy scum. Lost their roots, lost the plot.

I read a tweet amongst the forest of info, that one of those involved with one of the clubs didn't understand why we have relegation! says it all to me , not football people but $$$$$ seekers.

On another note, who are our owners?

Would they care though? They'd still fill the emirates with bored entitled unhappy punters paying £1000 to £2000 a pop for their season tickets and get their share of the central TV pot? Enough of a proportion of far east shirt buyers would probably also exist to keep that income going, and the players and managers would be paid mega bucks. I'm sure they'll soon get with the programme. Am I missing something fundamental (considering money, not ethics or external reaction).

Watching us at the Emirates I felt I was sat in a ground in Korea. Says it all.

Again I’ve no idea how true this is.

A quick Google would suggest it's a fabrication.

He has voiced his opposition to the concept in the past however and is bound to be asked about it tonight. Be interesting to see what he says, as he's pretty famously left-wing.

Boredom. Brand loyalty (if you want to consider them as brands). Brand switching. Brand insensitivity.

Having a customer is one thing. Having a customer who will stick with you in every possible circumstance is far more valuable, it’s why companies spend so much on acquisition of ‘sticky’ customers through loyalty programmes etc.

The average punter in China will switch from Juve to Man Utd to Chelsea as their favourite player gets moved around. And then they’ll shift to NBA or whatever as they get bored. Remember all those Koreans we had when Ki was here. Or Danes with Laudrup.

Playing the same 10 teams every single year in glorified friendlies won’t sustain the native audience that fill the stadia week in and week out. And we’ve all seen the flat atmosphere of empty stadia. The Premier League won’t continue as is. The 6 clubs would play reserves on the weekends. And will have so much money it’s ridiculous, the money for everyone else will disappear (as the audiences worldwide will watch the new league so the Tv deal will collapse). It will finish football as we know it.

It will be interesting to see if it actually happens. I’d normally assume not, but these people running these clubs are only interested in money and share prices and they’re going through the roof.

It seems they are starting to burn bridges, and so may not just be a power play. A lot of these clubs seem virtually to be financially, as well as morally, bankrupt. They will all be very short-termist, assuming continuation of current sentiment, without really thinking of how things might change. A bit like our yanks were before they got a rude awakening.

The interviews in Leeds v Greeds will be interesting tonight.

I hope Lids smash them, and then they, Spuds and if possible Chelski join the Arse out of the top 6. Not that it would make any difference, but it would be rather beautiful.
