New Manager

You sure? Look at who we lost to in the final, and tell me our side then was better than theirs for example.

Raya, Dalsgaard, Jansson, Pinnock, Roerslev, Jensen, Janelt, Canos, Marcondes, Toney, Mbeumo.

Woodman, Naughton, Cabango, Guehi, Bidwell, Fulton, Grimes, Hourihane, Ayew, Roberts, Lowe.

Can't compare the two. Too many Swans fans have rose tinted specs when they reminisce about years gone by. Cooper getting to the play-offs twice was a remarkable achievement.

100% - I think most of us knew on that final day that Brentford were a good few levels above us. We absolutely shithoused them over the season and the one prior.

They made it count when they needed to (both times) and it definitely showed.

Tell me who in our playoff side, was better than Brentford’s for example.

You’re talking nonsense. We are talking actual results and not what could or should have happened. Every club up and down the land can say that.
That's the mistake you are making, you are narrowing it down to that one game.
That season we were right in the fight for the top 2 but people harp on as if the play off final was the only thing that prevented promotion.

We went into conservative mode with about 8 games(I believe) or so left.

Ah right that’ll be it, not that other teams were better than us and our team of stars. As I said, there are teams up and down the land who think their team was better than it was and should have won this or that game.

We got to the playoffs in consecutive years which is no mean feet considering how hard big teams have found it over the years. But little Swansea with Ayew in should have pissed it.

Now I wasn't making out we should have pissed it but we went down with a whimper in the battle for the top 2. I think another January let down had a big play in it with rumours of Cooper not being happy with lack of strengthening and bringing in 2 Americans along with Hourihane.

The final itself, it was a non event and even leading up to it seemed a pointless game that many of us expected nothing from.

Norwich and Watford got promoted that season, we beat both teams at home that season and drew with Brentford in both our league games that season.

Maybe had Cooper been supported in the January window instead of two crocked Americans maybe living Piroe who had been identified instead of waiting till the summer it might have happened.

Its all about opinions...but as NJ says we we werenin the playoffs twice the only manager pist relegation who got us close.

But that's history but demonstrates the kixed opinions views and perceptions the fanbase has.

Personally I want a manager who will deliver goals and results.
Even Luadrup couldn't deliver more then that sublime 45 mins v West Brom regularly or even for 90.mins but he gave us a great European adventure

The mixed opinions suggest it's not as clear as both directions suggest and certainly is up for debate.
Interesting to read other sides of the discussion.

Onto the new manager.

Few links are suggesting that the players want Sheehan permanently.

Let's see how they perform for him in the upcoming fixtures.

I couldn't care what the players want. It's about getting the right man in for the club, not the players.

Half of them won't even be here next season either.

I was bored out of my skull watching us under Cooper (the advantage of having to watch games on telly is being able to read a book whilst having one eye on the match) but there's no doubt whatsoever that he's miles ahead of Russy and Williams in terms of coaching ability.

Fans have short memories. When Cooper left 99% of this forum were happy he was gone.

Like someone said above it was tournament football - low risk, uninspiring and boring. I suppose you could say it was successful to a degree, same as the Paulo Sousa regime but every game was a bore
That’s a bit limited of thinking isn’t it.

75% of the WoL poll wanted Coops to stay - a far larger population spanning a wider and deeper demographic.

Coops gave us effective, efficient, Winning footy - and highly entertaining to the more insightful fan who loves winning.

Contrast that with the stupidest, nonsense loser footy we have ever seen with Martin.

You ought to care what the players want.

The elation amongst the group when Willy was out was something else.

Players, esp elite players know the game far better than crap managers - the QPR performance was different class, when Grimes and the quorum took charge.

The blueprint is there - we just need a proper manager who can implement it consistently

Not really,

Remarkable or not, travelling to Wembley during Covid to witness a cowardly attempt in the final is probably the angriest I've ever been at a Swans game.

After he'd had an interview with Fulham no less...

Brentford s second goal game from a breakaway when we had 8 players in or around the Brentford area.
I ve heard this cowardly thing but it certainly wasn't...but then it's all about opinions.
But it'd sad that since then 4 years ago we have had nothing to get excited about
