Maybe not. Sunak v Truss looks most likely now. Badenoch will be eliminated next and most of hers will go to Truss.

It’s honestly at the point I’d prefer Sunak. And I think he’s utterly incompetent. I don’t, however, thinks he’s extreme right wing in the way Badenoch is. She is utterly abhorrent. Mordaunt may be the other one who’s not quite as appalling as a person.
Truss is a joke. Although Labour will be praying for her as she is so stupid. To be honest, I think it’s a shoo-in whatever happens now for Starmer next time.
Meanwhile, Johnson is invoking the deep state. As PM. It’s unbelievable.

Its going to be close if its sunak v truss , sunak will have to convince enough pro truss supporters in the membership who blame him for the Boris exit that he has a better chance at the next election than she does

Well,if you’re gonna make me choose a least worst I’d have to pick Sunak as well. But thinking longer term, Truss is so inept and such a terrible communicator with no actual principles to speak of, Labour would almost be guaranteed to at least deprive them of their majority next time around. I still think an 80 seat majority is too much to turn into a Labour majority in one election. But the damage that could be inflicted in the two years between now and then would be generational. I mean it already is given the last 12 years but these people have no morals, no scruples, no heart.

I’d like a coalition. Labour, LibDem, SNP. And for PR to be brought in. This extremism has to stop. This has to be the end. We need a consistently genuinely centrist government that encourages growth but also looks after people, education, health, taxes the extreme rich and corporates properly. Cares about the climate, basically everything the alt right hate. And it needs to stay in place for a generation. We are in a shocking state. And we need a complete reset. The gap between haves and have nots now is abhorrent. But we need to have a vibrant economy. And we need the best minds from every party to work on it. If we can find any.

You’re speaking my language there. Every word.

I don't think it will be. Racism will trump sexism and they'll go for 'our new maggie'. That's why she's now even dressing like thatcher. It's creepy but will work on the colonels and blue rinses that choose our prime minister these days.

The seats that Labour need to win for a majority isn't the concern, they need circa 123 to win and Blair gained 145 in 1997 with an 8% swing in that landslide, but that election was split heavily between Labour, Tory and Lib Dems, with other parties accounting for only 25 seats out of the 659

The issue is that now you have the SNP with 48 seats on their own, adding to the 11 Lib Dems and 23 additional seats

Amateur mathematics suggests that the % of swing Labour needs is over 10%, which is just unprecedented and not seen since 1931 when the Labour government collapsed and Ramsey McDonald's National Alliance won 554 seats out of 615, from a base of zero.

Be interesting to see how that mammoth task affects the campaign, whenever the election happens.

Thank God at least that monster Badenoch is out.

She is dangerous. And vile.

She needs to be booted from the Conservative party before they one day elect her. By all accounts rumour of the endorsement from Britain First are true. And yet no immediate denouncement. Think about that.

And lie upon lie about her privileged background.

Even by the standards of this government she was a massive step further right. Just shocking she got so far.

It's going to be Truss. And I'm here for that. Best result with 2024 in mind (or, hopefully, even earlier).

I think you've got to a similar place to me when I said earlier in this thread

" I'm willing to sacrifice the possibility of Labour ever having overall control to ensure that the Tories never do. So, if in the next GE the Tories do not have overall control, I want all the centre and left of centre parties to actively propose PR and once passed, the Tories can never reverse the decision if they never get overall control again. Hopefully, all those non-Tory parties will come to a similar conclusion and get it done. If I'm lucky, I've probably only got another 20 years left at best but I would want my children and grandchildren to live in a country that will never, ever again have to go through anything like the last 3 years with someone like the outgoing despot in charge."

It's probably a bit to do with my age but I'm no longer that bothered about Labour having a majority, I just want the Tories to not have one so that cooperation between all the centre and left of centre parties can get PR installed and ensure that we're never governed by these tyrants ever again.

I just can't see a coalition working with a party thats main goal is to leave the Union.

I don't think Starmer would budge on giving them a referendum, and the likely 10 Lib Dem seats won't cut it.

So we will probably end up in a pickle where we end up having some sort of impassse.

I don't see how it's anything to do with the other countries in the UK whether Scotland have a referendum to remain. Germany didn't have a veto on the UK leaving the EU. Daft IMO. The problem with the SNP is that they're not actually very good.

There should be a very easy left of centre coalition to be had here, and if they had any sense they'd work together on particular seats. I don't think it'll happen for a second, but Labour should promise a review of the electoral system as part of the package. They could guarantee dominating the Government for a generation in that scenario.

The Conservative Party is now the Brexit/UKIP/BNP party. It has nothing to do with the Tories that I grew up with (even though they were pretty horrible too, they had tempering influences). I'm surprised Farage hasn't tried to join. He'd be Foreign Secretary by now.

Badenoch out is obviously good news but she will soon be Home Secretary I reckon. Her bid has done its job.

Truss will win now. She'll get Badenoch's votes and the racists will do the rest. What a choice though...'would sir like Syphilis or Gonorrhea'.

Be quite amusing if they stitch up Sunak and it's Mordor vs Stupid. Can't see it.

Sunak v Truss it is. Lovely. Truss will win. Which will be both hilarious and disastrous given how rubbish she is at absolutely everything.
