Now Bale wants to buy Cardiff as well as Plymouth

Agree on the artist assessment. Here's his line from his pre match interview...

“I want the supporters to be excited by what they see and we expect to be at the top of the table.”

He has now officially joined the deluded brigade.

I mean, you could delete his name and replace it with either Luke Williams or Russell Martin in this AI explanation of his style of play...

Brian Barry-Murphy's style of play emphasizes possession-based football with a focus on attacking fluidity and playing out from the back. He encourages his teams to be brave in possession, particularly in defensive areas, and to use patient build-up to control the game. While he values a possession-based approach, he also recognizes the need for tactical flexibility, including going more direct when necessary. He also emphasizes the importance of a strong mentality and work rate from his players

I thought they'd shed more players (maybe they will before the window closes). But they will be in the top 4 if they new manager does just a moderate job. With Ng, Daaland, Robertson, Turnbull, Salech, Robinson etc plus some decent youngsters they've got one of the best sides in the division.

I don't know a lot about their players, but they're essentially the same bunch who achieved relegation positions for two seasons in a row in the Championship under multiple managers. It's a bold claim to say they have one of the best sides in the division based on the evidence.

Exactly, they got relegated because they're shit ffs

They'll definitely have one of the best teams in league 1. If they don't get promoted with this squad it will be a definite failure. There are no huge spenders like Wrexham or Brum or sleeping Giants like Southampton, Ipswich, Leeds etc.

How arent you realising that when a team gets relegated that they then play in a division with a lower standard the next season?

No guanratee that makes them better than the rest though. Huddersfield and Stockport look very strong, as do Luton

The only one of those that most people would agree are better than League One based on what we've seen of him so far is Salech. The rest have probably found their level.

No guarantee either way. We wouldn't be having this discussion if there was. Stockport are building well but aren't ready yet and Huddersfield have had too much upheaval and unproven manager. Cardiff should finish above both. Luton are the only ones I'd confidently say can finish above the scum. Plymouth won't be far off though.

How often do double relegations happen compared to relegated clubs coming back up?
Not sure but the last team to suffer back to back relegations to League 1 was Sunderland (a 'bigger' club than Cardiff by some distance) and it took them 4 seasons to get back to the Championship.

I believe Wolves were the previous team and they did it first time. So history would suggest we have no real guide as to what will happen with Cardiff. The amount of departures and lack of signings doesn't suggest they're going to storm the league however.

Only Birmingham bounced straight back last season and they spent a fortune in the process. The year before none of the relegated sides did. Nor the year before that.

It's not likely to be the cakewalk they think that it is.

I dunno, if they scrape a spawny 1-0 at home to Peterboro, they'll be top for a couple of hours. He can say he's succeeded in his ambition for the season then.
