S25/26 | The MATCHDAY Thread | Leicester 0 Swansea 1 | FT | The EFL Championship | The King Power Stadium

Great to get the three points today and to see the likes of Walta and Parker get significant minutes on the pitch.

My (mild) concern is that there were probably very similar posts to yours this time last season when we were on an even better run under Sheehan. The only players we lost who played significant parts in that end of season run were Darling and O'Brien, while we added plenty of new players over the summer, only to not exactly do well under the same manager this season.
That is fair but last season I we had so many players running out of contract that needed replacements, compare that to now and a lot of our players have 3 or 4 years left:

I’m glad you spotted that too, I was fearful I was missing something. (I’m on and off CH a lot at the moment). It’s Swansea City Football 2002, isn’t it?
Yes.

We were late on the most recent confirmation statement as well.

Hopefully it’s just them being useless.

I'm leaning that way also. We have a lot of younger players likely to be in the squad next season who have the potential to improve - Parker, Lissah, Galbraith, Inoussa, Widdell, Walta, Eom, even Vipotnik has only just turned 24.

In fact, almost the entirety of our first team squad are 26 or younger, with Vigs, Burgess, Fulton being the exceptions. It's a good position to be in.

I also think (and hope) that Matos is a better manager than Sheehan for the long haul rather than just a short-term bounce.
I was taken back by how old Aye was today. Oh and him being bald 😂. Fulton by all accounts does alot for the team behind the scenes and has turned a corner under Matos. Vigs again goes slightly under radar. Thought Cabango stood out today being vocal. Franco starting to show maturity. Think we get some more in next season we can cement top 10. And then push for top 6 year after that. This season I'll go for 12th.

A few older heads in a team is never a bad idea though.

Here's my observation, poor first half, decent second half, Eom quality, Walta more to come, Vigouroux was Vigouroux, Tymon was gassing out big time near the end, Vipotnik is different gravy.
Just an aside.
The absolute whinging and pants wetting from the usual on here at half time is the reason I don't contribute much on an away thread anymore. Big girls blouses the lot of you.

Fingers crossed we don't end up changing managers again mid season, I honestly feel that won't be the case next season.

We also had a lot more deadwood on the books this time last year.

I can see the likes of Santos, Ward and Ollie Cooper going in the summer. Not sure about another's.
Agree on the ‘deadwood’ part, but we do have 27/28 players aged 21+ under contract next year.

I see that as positive, as I don’t think we need this overhaul that some are calling for, but we will need to offload quite a few (and it’s partly why I think we’ll have to sell one of our assets) if we want to bring in the 2/3 players to improve the starting XI that we do need if we want to challenge for the top 8 over 46 games.

I’d be okay with that to be honest as long as it’s just one of them. From our owners perspective and PSR though, I can see them selling the higher value player which at this moment is Vipi.

They really went for it last summer, the players they brought in have to grow in value or we might be in some trouble.

Hopefully this rumoured big commercial deal can make somewhat of a difference.
It depends on the shortfall when it comes who to sell.

I’m not entirely certain that the rumoured big commercial deal wasn’t started in here as all that was said on the interview that started it was that deals would be bigger than previously. Which is genuinely saying nothing as our commercial income even in the premier league was woeful.

The new PSR rules are challenging. I’m not sure if they’ve decided to definitely bring them in next season or not.

Tymon put hell of a shift in trying to defend on his side. Thought both him and Parker did really well today. Shout out for Stamenic as well for his defensive tackles.

I know the PL has Squad Cost rules coming in next season where a team can only spend 85% of their revenue, no idea if they’re coming to the Championship any time soon.

Whatever happens in the summer, it would just be nice to be involved at the right end of the table at the end of a season. Hopefully Matos can do it.
