S25/26 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City 1 Portsmouth 0 | Att: 18,163 | 09/12/25 | The EFL Championship | The Swansea.com Stadium

There's a definite increase in effort and pressing under Matos. We also scored a set piece v Oxford. We shoot more too. But, relying on worldies isn't sustainable. We definitely need to be creating more actual chances, we shouldn't let the amount of long rangers going in mask that we still dont open teams up. So definitely more to come but tonight against a horrible pompey side, huge effort was needed and thats what we got.

Players are actually playing for their positions out there now, reality football has suddenly kicked in, if you've got to boot it out, you boot it out, every pass doesn't have to be safe.. they're actually thinking when to go forward and when not to go forward.. positionally we seem to be better.. it's not perfect, it's a bit slow, but he's been here for 2 weeks.. Stoke on Saturday will test us, let's see if it's a false dawn.. but if they have stinkers and get pumped I can see Matos dropping a few
Really valid points you have made. If we lose we lose om Saturday. As long as its not a thumping like we have been doing and we show progression. But I want that win against Wrexham 😜😜

Funny enough.. I think we have seen far more worse sides who we have come up against this season and lost them under Sheehan. Some really bang Average teams. We have this season become the team who only scored worldy goals. Which I'm not complaining. But we need the messy ones and tap in as well.

I’ve thought that Widell had promise since preseason, it was disappointing to see him left out so often. I’m glad he’s getting the chance to prove himself.
I've been screaming for Widell to get game time in central midfield since the season began
Inconsistent gametime and being shunted out on the left wing was one of Sheehan's many failings

He needs time in central midfield to get the execution and composure right for the ideas that he does have, I think a Widell who had been playing more would have put away both the chance he had tonight and the one against City in the cup.

Back home.
Two struggling sides, not a lot of quality in difficult windy conditions. We toughed it out and got another three priceless points.
We are much, much better without the ball under Matos. The press is putting the opposition under pressure and forcing them to play balls that they would prefer not to. Two clean sheets is not a coincidence, it’s down to hard work.
Stamenic man of the match for me. Everyone is working harder even if the quality is a problem.
Onwards and upwards Jack Army.

We put two cracking crosses in the first half , across the face of the goal, and yet there was nobody there to apply the finish. Those are the type of chances we need to be looking to put away.

Interesting he has mentioned it a few times now that the players need to bring back the togetherness. You can see at end of the match Matos interaction with the players. Again, what the hell happened with Sheehan and O Dea. Rumours that O Dea poorly handled players. But who knows. Also refreshing Matos is honest that we won't win every game but need to see the effort.

Having Galbraith at right back has definitely made us defensively better.

So, are we all happy now?
Some apparently are still not. 🙄
We are not playing free flowing football for 90 minutes, we are not great to watch, we are still dropping too deep on times, but… we are giving our all on the pitch, we are taking more shots, we are getting the substitutions right and at last at the right times. We’re low on confidence and the manager has been here for two minutes but we’ve won two on the bounce. This will give the players more confidence and I have to say thank you Vitor, please keep it up.
I’m feeling much happier with this than the way things were going under Sheehan.
Again I quite enjoyed watching from my seat on the East with MY team winning.

Very True. Idah Position wasn't great at times. No rant from me about him as no point at moment. I just want wins and we evaluate we're we are at and get safety. Who knows if he was a good signing or not.
