S25/26 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City 1 Sheffield United 0 | Att: 15,816 | The EFL Championship | 3pm, 16.08.25 | The Swansea.com Stadium

Just read a Sheff Utd forum game thread.

The common consensus throughout was the only thing worse than the fact that their players played bad, was the opposition were absolute rubbish (us).

We were only playing Swansea, who were rubbish, think what will happen when we play a good team!
Always the same. Self entitled little cunts

Like I say, I'm no techie. However, if you are right, how come I can stream BBC iPlayer, YouTube and Netflix till the cows come home and I never have a buffering issue?
The answer is because hes absolutely wrong - nothing to do with ram really. I mean a slightly more technical answer is a lot of the time with iplayer/youtube/netflix youre streaming a completed file so the availability of transcoded resolutions is something along with the fact its not something newly encoded at site. A live stream is often a transport stream of data do requires stuff like FEC (I know Im dumbing it down) to work unless they want to do dual threaded delivery in multiple standards. Some of us have owned companies doing this work... and some of us might currently do this line of work for the big broadcasters...

Thoughts on today.

Back four all played very well. Burgess’ distribution was already markedly improved. I thought both Key and Tymon defended and attacked really well. Cabango thankfully looks like he is getting there fitness wise and played well.

Midfield looked like it has the beginnings of a very impressive group. Lots of movement and swapping of positions and covering back. Galbraith again stood out for me, but the others all did well. When they are used to each other it will be fantastic. Fulton - I suspect that’s the last time we see him outside of cups games and an injury crisis. New bloke in stands so obviously imminent. A strong midfielder option will give us so many permutations.

Wide players were good in glimpses. I liked Inoussa’s contribution. Eom and Ronald showed flashes of excellence and flashes of not very good. But, to be honest, we have a strong selection there and they should all become more consistent. Ronald took his goal very well.

Up front. Cullen worked his socks off but I think we will see a new face this week. Cullen is absolutely fine as a back up with Wales and possibly Vipotnik if they can somehow find some pace of body and / or mind about him

Widell looked sharper today I though when he came on.

All in all, a very enjoyable match, one we deserved to win and great to get our first three points of the season against a team that I suspect will become a different proposition in a few weeks’ time.

I thought we were entertaining as well. Lots of press and movement. You can see the style we are trying to play and it will be very enjoyable to watch once the pieces click into place. Unlike last week, I genuinely always thought we’d get a goal today, even as the minutes ticked by.

Ok, I can only conclude that 16k are wrong and that I’m right 😂
Those ratings on the Beeb are always terrible. It's especially funny when it's two big teams playing and all the fans of either team are giving their own players 10's and the opposition 1's. You were right, those ratings are wrong.

Agree with all of that.

I wasn't sure what kind of player Widdell was when I watched him on Tuesday, but he showed a lot more in less time today as you say.

I know it was only the final minute, but Wales being the sub for Cullen rather than Vipotnik says a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a move lined up for him dependent on us signing someone. I also wouldn't be surprised if it's a loan move given he's got a few years left on his contract and is probably on a decent wedge.

Agree with Widell. Improved a lot in a week. Once he’s settled fingers crossed he will begin to show his ability.

I thought all the midfield was genuinely excellent. Sheehan obviously doesn’t really play in the 6,8,10 defined roles. It’s all very fluid. And it’s good to see.

Franco’s fitness has improved a lot this week as well. Which is a job well done for our coaching staff.

I was a bit worried about Widell against Crawley, he was busy but looked some way off the level to me. He looked much closer to where he needs to be today, against a much better team. I thought he was excellent at times and you can tell he’s played with Inoussa in the past. It’s nice knowing that we can bring on subs in midfield and not have the level drop.

Thanks for this. As you seem to be an expert in this field, would you volunteer to respond to Swans TV to rebut what they say?

Enjoyed todays game, a far better watch than last week thankfully.
Galbraith is a really classy player, an excellent signing.
Widell needs to get used to the physicality of the Championship, signs of promise but I'd leave him on the bench for now.
I'd definitely start Inoussa over Eom for the Watford game
