Back at the end of December, just after winning 2 games in a row, we were talking a lot about the club needing to actually plan ahead for transfer windows and have deals close to completion. Widell was clearly a long negotiation, probably because we really wanted him for the rest of the season. We couldn't achieve that, so settled for signing someone they clearly rate very highly and getting him for next season.
If the Jacob Wright links are true, that's the kind of deal PL clubs don't usually sign off on until right at the end of the window in case their circumstances change during January.
Whatever the reasons for Grimes going, it's obviously come as a surprise to the club and now they really do need to get someone in to replace him at short notice. Maybe that's Wright and we weren't in for him until Grimes left, maybe it's the lad from Peterborough, but hopefully there'll be someone.
My point being that it seems a bit rich for us for demand the club identify the right players and plan early, then also demand they abandon those carefully laid plans and make panic signings because we're on a losing run.
