Summer Transfer Window

Nico Williams still going strong for Bilbao (y) Unless you mean Neco Williams, who is also still going strong in the Prem
He meant Rhys Williams......had played on the left hand side of defence for Liverpool in Champions League and Premier League but Martin in his wisdom played the naturally left footed Williams on the right side of central defenceand Cabango naturally right footed on the left hand side!!
Seems Martin knew better than Klopp....Williams promising career stalled coming here was on loan at Morecombe last season

Even if the striker was mysteriiously selected to play on the wing?

Has he played exclusively on the wing since being signed by Sheffield United? I'm sure plenty of his appearances have been as a striker. Even then, a striker playing on the wings would be expected to be a decent goal threat.

Ronald is criticised for his end product and is definitely not a striker, yet even his record of 7 goals in 67 appearances for us is only slightly worse than Brewster's.

I think the injury situation has made it look worse.
I'm not convinced by that. Even if both were fit, we'd only have one CB for the bench and we still have no full back cover at all. The central midfield spot is still too thin, and everyone knows we need a striker.

The only place we're currently well stocked is in the attacking midfield/winger positions, and Fisher is ok as a #2 so we have cover at GK. But everywhere else we are short.

Again, I stress, I know we're not at the top of the food chain. But I just think it's pretty rich to expect Sheehan to deliver success if we're not going to make more of an effort to be ready for the opening day. Its not as if they didn't know where the gaps would be back in March/April, they knew who would be going. That was more than enough time to plan and take action. It's disappointing.

I did raise my eyebrows when the Inoussa deal was revealed, as attacking midfield/winger seems to be a position we like to stockpile at, while we're very thin elsewhere.

haha couldn't work out who it was

Because Opta stats have compiled a list of the opening ten games and used their compiled data to give every team a power rating that indicates how strong they are as a club based on their squads and recent performances and transfer dealings.

Based on those power ratings they took the average score across the opening ten games, and ours was indeed the highest.

If it was some hack like the72 or footballleagueworld or Tom Coleman I would discount it. But Opta is the golden standard for stats

EDIT:
Sorry its the first nine games which I think takes us up to the first international window

I don't doubt Opta's stats credentials, but that particular stat is boiulderdash.

How can you create stats for a team that has say 5 new players who have never played for that team before?

For example if Swansea field Burgess, Galbraith, Widdell, Inoussa & Casey on Saturday, it is absurd to think Opta know how they will fair.

Add to the mix Middlesbrough all their new signings and a new management team.

Suffice to say I dont agree Swansea have the toughest opening 9 games , it may well transpire that way but that is something for the future.

Id wager Ronald will score more than 2 in the next 53 apps for us too.

I think Cullen is better than Brewster and Geldhart. Straight up. If they are the options I'd stick with Culls. I don't think Cullen has the overall guns for a consistent championship player, but I think he'll contribute more and score more than those two. I also think there is more chance for him to grow into a more consistent contributor, although I'd much prefer better.
Geldhart is a quality footballer and much better than Cullen.

However like Cullen he needs the right system and supporting cast, Geldhart is not a No9

On the Geldhart move to Hull, how does that happen if they have an embargo??

He was pretty much permanently injured before joining us also. I just had a look and he played in 20 Championship games for us 2 seasons ago, while he played in 26 for Luton last year. Not a massive difference.
Sorry, can't agree with that.
He's been at Luton for 1 season & made 28 appearances for them- it would have been far more but he was sent off 3 times so missed around 7 games due to suspension. He also started a good number of those games & played 90 minutes for them a number of times.
He may have played 20 games
for us 2 seasons ago but how many minutes did he play?
In 3 seasons he rarely started & never played 90 minutes.
He played 35 times for Cov the season before he signed for us.
Can't be bothered to look at minutes played but there's no comparison.
Our fitness team really have some questions to answer.

Rhys Williams was awful & Russ had many faults but playing that waste of space out of position wasn't 1 of them.
He played on the left of a back 3 and was terrible.
If you want I'll give you the games & you can look back at the match footage.
You've stated this a few times, no idea why?

They are allowed to sign loans an free agents
I think the issue was that Geldhart was still under contract and had a fairly substantial transfer valuation.

There are a lot of questions about how they have agreed a free transfer for a player worth 3m (based on transfermarkt) with two years still to run on his contract.
