Summer Transfer Window

I didn't realise Ipswich was twinned with Cardiff...

Putting that sense of superiority to one side the near universal disappointment at his departure can't be a bad thing. It's a signing I'm warming to.

Not as good a passer as Darling, but clearly a more consistent and robust defender. Santos has a very similar profile, so there's clearly a slight shift away from a possession led approach to a more pragmatic one. I have some reservations about that, but I'm cautiously optimistic that at the very least we will be a more enjoyable watch, with an increased tempo and emphasis on dribbling.

If Darling does leave, as seems certain, we will probably need a 4th choice centre back who can also cover Tymon at left back. Probably an exciting up-and-coming youngster from a minor league who has decent experience in the men's game.
I remember Ipswich in the championship being good to watch, they definitely did build up from the back when necessary. I think he’s a more than capable ball player, it’s the lack of pace with both him and Cabango that worries me a bit. Having said that, Mike Van Der Hoorn and Fede had no pace and we would have loved that partnership for the championship!

Most of his career was League One and Two, Ipswich signed him when League One, played 39 games in their promotion to premier season but only 11 games played in the Premier League. Was he injured last year?

Sounds a decent player.

Edit: 11 games was from wiki, another site states 16 starts and 2 sub appearances last season.
total 1560 approx mins so half a season, played the full 90 6 of last 9 games, took a knock for the others

I can’t remember a player we have signed for ages that come with such glowing reference from their departing teams fans.

Those Ipswich fans who watch him week in week out saying he’s a gem. Means so much more than stats mate.
FotMob only rate the Ipswich fanbase as a 4.6 in the glowing reference stats mind...

So where we at all.

Thinking that Tjoe a On,Mykolo,Fish,Ginnelly and Yates out.

Looking at adding

Right back cover?
Centre half cover?
Holding midfielder?
Striker?
No one is buying Ginnelly or Tjoe on unfortunately. If we can get Galbraith, that covers RB and CM. For CB we really need to blood Lissah as our 4th option and I would not waste resources on another striker given that our playstyle previously gave 4 chances a century, so the strikers we have cannot be judged harshly for how they've played imo.

Clubs not interested in Galbraith. That was a hail mary from Coleman on deadline day when O'Brien turned us down the night before then changed his mind and came. New striker is on the top of the shopping list.

Regardless of whether or not Darling stays another centre half was needed. Burgess is a quality signing though especially on a free (minus whatever signing on fee was agreed). That still leaves one more centre half place to be filled, but that might well be Lissah who will be getting an opportunity in preseason with the first team squad so that last spot is his to claim if he is able to make the step up.

We have a large number of unwanted strikers on our books at the moment, presumably we want to shift at least two if not three of them. That is almost surely our next area of focus, come what may though this has been a hugely promising summer transfer window especially by comparison of years gone by under the previous ownership.

Let's not forget Montague here.

It's easy to highlight a player but getting them on board is another matter.

There would have been a few clubs in for Burgess and Wales out of the players we have signed.....we done well to convince them to join us.

I agree on Galbraith, but Lissah is almost certainly best going out in loan. As 4th choice centre back his chances of significant game time are remote. He's best gaining experience of the men's game on loan.

You're wrong about the chances our strikers were getting. Bianchini, Ronald, Eom and Vipotnik were missing chance after chance provided by the likes of Tymon. Only Cullen was a dependable source of goals. In an ideal world, if the fees are acceptable I would only keep Cullen. I'd even let him go for a good fee.

Been reading Ipswich forums, they're a funny lot. It appears they're a much bigger club than us, some can't fathom why he went to such a smaller team and we don't have a pot to piss in apparently.

Weren't they a League One club two years ago? Did we play them in our 7 years in the Premier League?
Same as Norwich fans. Being in the arse end of nowhere in Norfolk and Suffolk with only each other as even relatively near rivals probably does something to their brains. Ipswich fans have to put up with Norwich being more successful than them for many years.
