Summer Transfer Window

Sales blank for the last 2 years I think is down to the Watson approach. His approach was to bring players in on low/zero fees, low wages and in his words 'players who can do a job'. When you stock up your squad with workmanlike players its the antithesis of buying and developing talent for resale. I think we signed 12 players in his windows.

This last year feels more like a return to normal from the Watson player approach. Players who look like they are on an upward trajectory when we sign them. Ronald, EOM, Franco and more recently Widell, Inoussa, Galbraith, Wales

Some will continue upwards. Some wont. But at least the potential is there.

People complaining about the idea we need to buy to sell should take a look at the Swiss Ramble thread on our latest accounts which Darran has posted.

Just like most Championship clubs, we are losing money hand over fist and are reliant on the owners pumping money in regularly to cover our losses. Add to that the lack of big money sales, plenty of dud purchases we have to sell for less than we paid for them, having to pay off 2 sacked managers in the last 2 seasons, no cup runs to boost revenue, is it really surprising that we don't have much money to spend?

This is the most confident I've been in the club for a number of years. It's been a LONG time since we had such a busy (inwards lol) start to a transfer window. Not to mention some really customer-focused kits this year, and the whole Snoop Dogg thing. And, the club have kept almost everything under wraps - impressive stuff really.

So, it might be a bit premature, but I do have a bit more confidence that something is going on behind the scenes, we just don't know about it.

Just hope I don't have to eat my hat in a few weeks.
The other point everyone should consider is almost every club or new manager knows you cant turn a club around in just one transfer window.

We have done a lot this window. I doubt it stops here and there will be more but if it did stop here I would see this window as a success to be built on further next summer.

This is all true and the mood around the club was completely positive, until the actual football started and there's been quite a reality check for some people who were suddenly expecting us to get promoted this season.

There are still plenty of things to be positive about but there are, equally, areas of concern (namely; cover in defence, a striker, general squad depth and an apparent reverting to type in terms of tactics). If those areas aren't addressed then we'll be looking at a probable midtable/lower midtable finish, which is more realistic in my opinion

The thing I don’t understand if the money wasn’t there we wouldn’t of gone in for players like poku/mcburnie

This was my point Sheehan will end up being sacked as a result of people unrealistic expectations of where we are at I’ve seen people say Sheehans got no excuse not to deliver this season it baffles me especially given the fact players like Congreve ,coterill and Parker will be mainstays in our squad when it’s obvious they are not quite ready for the level and would be better off on loan in the division below

There's nothing to say we have been in for these players - apart from online chatter. The club moved quickly to secure actual targets - Inoussa & Burgess etc. The fact that nothing has come of the supposed McBurnie link, perhaps we haven't actually been in for him.

I’m not convinced we were seriously in for McBurnie once we found out his wage demands and Poku would have been free.

Looking at the deals we’ve done this summer, excluding Inoussa, they’ve been frees or minimal fees. Think that’ll make up the majority of what we do with maybe one more bigger purchase.

Tom Coleman confirming interest in Kone after originally touted by a Guardian journalist.

5m price reported makes me think it’s unlikely but doubt we would express interest if we knew we couldn’t do any kind of deal.

People were going to gradually fall off after relegation from the Prem, as time went on then excuses would be made and arguably those excuses were made easy for people.
I don't get how people can just walk away from a club because they were bored with the football....it's frankly pathetic for me.
If you support a club, you do so through the good and bad times.
For a few seasons after relegation the fall away wasn't great but the more K & L reduced the budget the more the product on matchdays fell away and the ones who remained after relegation started to go down the same path.
The stayaways happened much quicker in the Toshack era but eventually the apathy in the club dragged them down the same path.

Happens at virtually every club after relegation.
It didn't and still doesn't sit right that fans used excuses.
I seen some absolute shiite over the years and it amazes me to this day that some experienced followers have put recent years football into a category that is so far from the truth.
I think the premier league years changed a lot of mentalities of fans who had been supporting us for years prior....it won't be admitted though.
