Just hope we didn't pay hos flight from Sweden. Like most footy fans with their team, I was hoping he'd be the next great thing for us, now I'm hoping in 6 months I'll be saying how we dodged a bullet with Middlesborough sitting above the relegation spots :ROFLMAO:

Isn't it time we changed the thread title. to something like The Calamitous Manager search thread!!

He must have had the criteria for a work permit as a coach at Liverpool.
Doing ok at Portuguese second tier club Maritimo.
Is he any less qualified than Brum's Chris Davies who we tried to attract a few years back or Minnesota United's Eric Ramsey.

Even though it's been verbally agreed. Expressen newspaper has just been updated "Kim Hellberg will leave Hammarby for England.
According to several sources to Expressen, it is now clear that the Swede will take over Middlesbrough in The Championship.
The parties have agreed on the contract and the English club will thus buy out the Swede."
They also addded on x that "they have started the work permit application for him". So seems more than definite.

Rodgers will be waiting for the right Premier League job. To even consider coming here you would have to hand over the keys to the whole club and he would want to spend more than we can according to the rules. He would bring in his whole transfer department and still moan every week about the players.
Funny but he took over a team of less value than what we have now, tweaked it and the rest is history. I’d say if anyone could get a tune form this team it’s him. However is his style too “old hat” got the championship today. I’d really love Laudrup back even if he only stayed for a year.

I agree that Rodgers is the best coach being mentioned on this forum. I think he is brilliant. I just do not think 52 year old Rodgers wants to build a Championship team that has mediocre resources at his disposal. He is at a different part of his career than he was back then, he would be the perfect coach for us if we could have cloned that version. Now his wage demands are probably 5 times more and he knows he is a very good Premier League manager.

Every time we lose out on a player or manager we all think it’s the end of the world and say it’s the same old same old but it’s where we are as a club. We are in a much better place than we were a year ago, it actually feels like we could make some progress now.

We can’t really blame the club for not getting Hellberg in when we’ve lost out to the club that’s third in the division. What we should be aiming to do is improve our position in the league, that’s the only way we can change the perception of the club and become an attractive destination again.

Agree.

Just trying to look at it from his pov - they're a bigger club than us, by all accounts they're willing to give him a bigger salary, plus from that part of the UK it's a lot less faff for him to hop on a plane home if he needs to.

Not to mention we messed him about earlier in the year, having interviewed him.

Can't really blame him, as a package it's got a lot more going for it. We have to be realistic about that.

Give me a Champoinship savy guy, all day long.
But who is available that falls under that remit? There are a few over the hill managers kicking about like Mowbray, Hughton, or Warburton who just 'do a job'. Won't relegate us, but just no eye for the future and naff football at the time. Otherwise, you're down to Carrick who imo has a low ceiling (didn't get play-offs two seasons running with Boro's squad), or O'Neill (decent enough in the PL, but promotion is a much different job than fighting to stay up every season).

No, Whitby or one of the lovely villages in the N Yorks Moors.
Exactly even as far down as Harrogate area, Southgate has a full on manor there called Swinsty Manor been there since his time at Middlesborough (granted he was obivously very well paid).
