I thought you might like a gander.Fan.
I bought some magpie/squirrel-proof bird feeders for nuts. They work in that respect but they have sealed bottoms, meaning water collects in the base of the feeders and rots the nuts. They're a PITA to clean, then the next time it rains I've got to do it again.
Anyone got any suggestions for pest-proof nut feeders? (I can't have fat balls , niger seeds etc for various naggy reasons).
Edit: I'm thinking maybe I could shove something in the base of each that would allow the water to drain through. Maybe a metal pan scrubber?). The water would still collect but the nuts might not be so immersed.
Squirrels in the 20th century are super human.
We’ve given up and now put sunflower hearts along the top of the wall and on the floor,we back on to the woods with a small brook running through and have hundreds of squirrels. We’ve tried every feeder under the sun and it’s pointless the little bastards wreck everything.
We’ve had loads of bird tables which they’ve pushed over and it gets cracked, pick it up and they push it over again and the crack gets bigger until it’s completely Donald ducked.
Earlier this year my wife had a stick on the window feeder with suckers,I put it dead centre of a 6 x 6 foot window and they got to it and ripped it off.
We’ve even got them tapping the window about 7:30am so my wife can go out and feed them.
