This is a larger one (more expensive) which I have. After a few years of use the mesh has started to go slightly rusty, but still does its job. There is a cage that can be bought separately.

My only reservation with something like that is the small birds become jailbirds if an apex predator rocks up and waits for them.

But the sloped base is exactly what I think will work.

You don’t have to have the cage, but then the larger birds and squirrels chase away the smaller ones. I have one caged and one without. I also put seeds in to a caged feeder so the smaller birds are able to get something.
