I think that’s been the case with us and a lot of players recently. Our striker targets didn’t want to join us in the summer either. We’ve got to start becoming a club that top targets want to come to or these owners will never get anywhere. I don’t mean top players btw, I mean our top targets.
You need to target realistic players, all well and good that we went for this guy or that but if it's not realistic it just wastes time and effort.
Some of the names mentioned over the summer were just totally out of our reach despite stories stating we had a chance.
Sakyi was realistic but just didn't fancy us as a club.

Loads of players would rather stay in or around London / Manchester / Liverpool. Let’s be honest other than our beaches and scenery (which we appreciate) what is there for young players with a few bob burning an hole in their pockets? Let’s not kid ourselves that the area is attractive in that sense.
I think that’s what puts the emphasis on the sporting project being a good one. Good players will come here if we’re competitive and look like a club on the up. Coventry isn’t one of the premier destinations in the UK but plenty of decent players have joined them recently including our captain. Money will always factor in of course, but people will want to join you if you’re successful and doing well.

I suppose that’s my point. Our recruitment and ownership seem to want to be ambitious but we don’t match that ambition at the moment. We have to change the perception of us as mid-table fodder for us to be in the conversation for the players we’re targeting.

Totally agree in that success will attract some of those on the fence, but there’ll still be plenty who turn their noses up at us. Even Coventry will be more attractive than us to some, being a short hop from Birmingham.

Our location is a very big negative which cannot be discounted for these young players.

It’s definitely a factor. Loads of players who come here end up loving it and staying. but getting them here initially will always be always be a challenge.

This was our downfall in the prem as well. Missed out on some very big players for this reason.
