It starts on 10 July, three against the Windies and three against Sri Lanka. No Bairstow, no Foakes, no Leach. Bashir spins, Jamie Smith keeps wicket. Pennington in. The future calls.

England Men’s Test Squad (For the first two Tests against West Indies): Ben Stokes, James Anderson (First Test only), Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Dillon Pennington, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Chris Woakes

Still the best format of the game. I look forward to settling in for a session or two in front of the box.

Like you said its great for a session, but you don't need a sesh to fall asleep whilst watching 😂

That’s part of the attraction, it allows for a little rest and a disconnect from the busy world in which we live and work. Everything about it just runs at a slower pace.

Its the reawakening with the obligatory stiff neck that's my issue 😲 😂

As for the squad, it’s a fresh looking group. A good opportunity for some of them to nail their futures down. There are one or two that I need to read up on further.

1st Test ...

England: 1 Zak Crawley, 2 Ben Duckett, 3 Ollie Pope, 4 Joe Root, 5 Harry Brook, 6 Ben Stokes (capt), 7 Jamie Smith (wk), 8 Chris Woakes, 9 Gus Atkinson, 10 Shoaib Bashir, 11 James Anderson

West Indies 1 Kraigg Brathwaite, 2 Mikyle Louis, 3 Kirk McKenzie, 4 Alick Athanaze, 5 Kavem Hodge, 6 Jason Holder, 7 Joshua da Silva (wk), 8 Gudakesh Motie, 9 Alzarri Joseph, 10 Shamar Joseph, 11 Jayden Seales.

A work from home day coincidentally aligns with the opening day of the ENG v WI series. Amazing coincidence!

And it’s some day, a five-for on debut for Atkinson. Gained so much confidence from an early wicket and has just carried on from there.

How's this for a stat...
Mikyle Louis became the first West Indian opening batsman to hit a six at Lords this morning since Sir Gordon Greenidge (214) in 1984.
