Right that they are making themselves look the victims

OR

Self obsessed, full of entitlement individuals?

You don't have to agree with lockdowns to see that they're a pair of entitled twats. Same rules for everyone, regardless of whether you think the rules are silly or not.

They certainly are but English rules are not very specific so for some 5 miles would be considered local whilst others (like me) would say if you have to drive there it can’t be considered local. I wouldn’t agree with the police that if you’re walking with a drink you’re having a picnic though. Derbyshire police reviewing it apparently. Rules need to be clearer.

I would say neither party comes out looking great. They do come across like entitled twats (to quote Itchy) and yet the police response seems OTT. Surely they could have taken names and registrations and issued a warning that they'd be fined if they were caught doing it again?

The hot drink constituting a picnic also seems ridiculous. But on the other hand, they've both left their houses by car, presumably gone through a Starbucks drive through somewhere and then driven to the Reservoir. Is that an essential journey? I appreciate the immediate surroundings of home may not be as pleasant a walk, but why not make a coffee at home and walk from there? One of the women states she has anxiety, so getting out of the house for a walk is obviously important for her mental health, but not sure I buy the excuse that walking by the water is more effective.

On the police, why were there so many there? It would only take one car to turn people away and fine them if necessary.

It is though.

I can't see what they have done wrong, to be honest.

I reflect on where we were a year ago and feel that we are in danger of losing some of the foundations of a free society. It is worth reading the legislation that 500 MPs passed this week in detail. In this case a quiet word would seem fair, reasonable and appropriate.

Not an area of expertise, so I will not argue the point. Perhaps she could see if her GP could write a letter for her stating that? If it's vital for someone's mental health, then reasonable exceptions have to be made.

You're definitely not speaking from experience there

GP's are getting better but they definitely aren't going against the government narrative on this one.

I just think they got caught at a popular place for walkers at a time where the Police were bored or being pressured but external forces. Most law enforcement officers would have been more understanding.

I have absolutely no doubt at all that the two women in question will have only told the newspapers half a story to make themselves the victims
