What are we really expecting from Matos....

A win is a win. I couldn't care less if its against top of the table or bottom. Some people are never happy. I give up 😅
Everyone is happy with any win.

Some of us are just pointing out that beating Oxford twice doesn’t mean you’ll do the same against a better team,

You can only beat what is front of you.

I get the feeling those who were dead set against his appointment are looking for any excuse not to hold their hands up and admit they might have jumped the gun with his appointment.

Of course you can.

The only argument is with extrapolating it for a full season where we play everyone twice.

I thought it was a ridiculously risky appointment. I still do.

If we get promoted with him it won’t change that. It’s like someone gambling everything on red. It’s stupid whether red comes up or not.

I like him so far though. That’s not the same thing.

If we get promoted with him it won't change your thinking he was a risky appointment?

No.

The outcome of a gamble doesn’t change the gamble in the first place.

We’ve played two games fewer under him than he’d had as manager in total before we appointed him. Which was the only run of games we had to base our ‘data analysis’ on.

It remains a hugely risky appointment for a club that was in our position. We all hope the gamble pays off. It’s far too early to tell yet. But I like him and I’m pleased he’s managed to get some much needed energy into the team. It will take different players before he can do much else.

It's ok to admit you got it wrong.

Wrong about what?

I’m struggling to understand how you don’t understand that the outcome of a risky bet doesn’t change the riskiness of the bet itself.

And we don’t even have anything approaching an outcome at the moment anyway.

To be fair Smurph, it'll always have been a risky appointment whether he gets us promoted, gets us relegated or anything in between.

Appointing someone with his lack of experience and lack of success elsewhere was always a scary prospect given where we were at the time in terms of league position and trajectory. Fantastic that he's looking like a good appointment, but we haven't got a stellar record in terms of appointing good managers and Matos' CV still makes/made the appointment rather risky to begin with.

I totally get it was a risky appointment when you consider his managerial background,

Posters continuously looking to question him to save face is getting rather boring.

I don't need to spell it out for you.

No one is questioning him.

Everyone on here, including me, has said he’s doing well.

This is becoming ridiculous.

Exactly.

We have quite a young team and if Matos has the ability to develop and coach young players, as has been stated, we could be in for a good few years.

Eom, Vipotnik, Widdell, Stamenić and Innoussa are all just 23, Ronald, Galbraith and Idah are just 24. Add some of our youth players who are out on loan and playing well, the future could be bright.

At the moment my cup is half full.
