Whittaker recalled

Struggling to understand the problem here.

RM doesn’t rate him and clearly isn’t going to play him.

Owners see him, rightly, as an ‘asset’, to be sold for money. If they then sell him and pass on at least some of the funds to RM to bring in a player(s) RM does want, then what’s the problem (and btw…I’m no defender of our crap owners)? Fck Plymouth (sorry) and fck Whittaker (sorry). This is business and if it benefits the Swans, I’m all for it.

From a business perspective wouldn’t it be better to leave him play out the season at Plymouth to further increase his value ?

Some risk associated with that but it makes more sense than recalling him now just to get the original investment value back

Thing is both Martin and Cooper have seen what he’s about in training and how he conducts himself there and attitude etc even Rooney shipped him out of Derby despite him having massive potential which he’s now showing, I’m sure these rumours of bad attitude have followed him here from Derby.

I’m hoping he’ll stay and play a part with us when if Pato/Ntcham/Femi leave, but I’m not holding out hope.

It's his attitude that bad then, Plymouth don't seem to have a problem with it.

Or maybe he’s just matured and focussed on having a decent career.

In which case the loan has worked so get him back

My interpretation of those quotes from RM is that the powers that be want to bring Whittaker back to be a part of our matchday squad in the 2nd half of the season and RM is feeling a bit miffed that they made that choice when it's clear he's not a fan of the player.

I'm reading 'asset' in this context as a being an asset to the matchday squad, not as a player to be sold. Could be wrong though.

With Pato and Obafemi seemingly heading for the door. RM probably asked about new attacking signings and the DOF thought - well, we have an attacking player on fire this season playing for someone else, let's bring him back instead of bringing someone else in.

Which if the board have said that is totally fair enough, isn't it?

I dont want one man making the decisions on transfers. Martin is not exactly blowing smoke up his ass which is fine with me. As a no 9 or a winger Whittaker will add value. Half the words RM uses such as asset are just verbal jousting and an exercise in vocabulary rather than tactics in front of the press. Minor issue really.

Just watched a clip of Russ being questioned over Whittaker coming back, and to me it sounds like he does not want him back at all, but is totally down to the owners. If that is the case, it suggests to me that he is about to be sold.

Well no, as he would lose value sitting in the stands. While he’s performing like he is for Plymouth he’s gaining.

I hope we haven’t completely screwed this one up.

That’s exactly how I saw it must say

Official now.
Will be extremely interesting to see if/how RM utilises him considering what he has shown at Plymouth and to a lesser extent Lincoln last season.
