Summer Transfer Window

If they played yesterday, it leaves us with four options.

Anton Gaaei - Ajax fullback, played nearly 60 times for them, valued at 7m Euros. Can almost certainly rule out.

Oliver Prostgaard - Lazio centre-half; signed in February on a deal until 2029. Would maybe be a possible loan?

Thomas Thiesson Kristensen - Udinese centre-half; linked with Spurs, made 25 Serie A appearances last season. No chance.

Victor Bak Jansen - Left back playing for Midtjyland. Two years on his contract, but Danish League isn't a hugely expensive place to shop. Confident this is the one.
Good sleuthing.
I'm sure I saw Phil Slumber post about someone called Jansen a few days ago too. I thought he was on about the ex PSV & Spurs striker!!

I seem to remember the players are back in for training on July 1st.?
It will soon slip forward to games after that.
Good to have that prospect coming into sight .
PS My first few words---still here just been laying low:)

Can you explain how we were second only to Coventry for crosses into the box? How come Vigouroux delivered more long balls than any other goalie? Inconvenient facts.

There's plenty of reasons to find fault with Williams' leadership, but let's ground any discussion in reality.
You again with your stats. Vigoreaux might well have gone long more than “any other goalie” but that’s not going to help Ronald.
A goalkeeper playing a long ball gives defenders much more time to react than a quick ball moved back to front via short passing, where defenders will be pulled out of position giving wingers that vital edge , that half a yard or better still a ball played in behind the full backs.from central midfield which will have a more precise weight and pace than from a ball gunted from the back.

You really want to get your head out of computers and watch games. You may notice things then.

They're not "my stats", they're just facts. I know we now live in a world where people believe they can make stuff up to suit their agenda, but I prefer to live in a world grounded in reality. The reality, contrary to your assertions, is that Ronald didn't deliver more crosses under Sheehan than under Williams. If anything there was a slight reduction. Under Williams a lot of the long balls to Ronald came from Vigouroux and Grimes. Under Sheehan they came from Vigouroux and Darling. So, no big tactical change.

The world fell apart when "alternative facts" became a concept for lying. As Wyn says - stats don't belong to anyone - they are merely measurable and verifiable data. The interpretation anyone puts on facts (including ignoring them completely) is in the eye of the beholder.
I prefer to use them to challenge my own perceptions presented (mainly) by my eyeballs.

As they say in the right hands statistics can be used to justify just about anything.

Bytholwyn called Ronald one of the most prolific crossers in the league, the stats I pulled up showed he wasn't even the most prolific crosser in the team let alone the league. He barely crept into the top 10 despite playing the 3rd highest amount of minutes and was far below Josh Tymon and Matt Grimes - statistics without context when drilled in deep enough can be used to make just about any point

Eom was ranked 38th in number of crosses but had more crosses per 90 minutes played (4.81 vs 4.20) than Ronald

Eyeballs are great for recognising things that are exceptional but important, such as goals scored and prevented. But they're less reliable when it comes to less noticeable and mundane stuff, and comparative data.

The only reason I can confidently say that Ronald was the best winger defensively in the Championship last season is the comparative data that shows he was best in league for tackles and ground duels won and close to best in league for a further 5 defensive metrics. For me, noticing exceptional stats helps inform my viewing and focus on things that weren't previously obvious to me. Tymon was delivering a high number of accurate crosses from early on last season and had a high expected assists tally. So, even while he struggled defensively in Williams' loose defensive structure he offset that with his attacking output. He ended the season with the second highest expected assists tally of all players, including wingers and 10s. Only stats can enable one to appreciate just how good (or bad) a player's performance is in comparison to others.

I never said Ronald was one of the most prolific crossers in the league. My points were firstly that as a team we were heavily reliant on crosses into the box under Williams, second only to Coventry, and secondly that Ronald's output didn't change significantly with a change in manager.

The big changes under Sheehan were defensive ones, with a lot more clean sheets. The offensive improvements were a lot more modest. That's the big challenge for next season. Keep the defensive solidity and add more potency up top.
