Extending the vote to 16-18 year olds

Apparently evidence indicates it has no impact on the result where it’s been done elsewhere, but it makes obvious sense. Doubt it’ll do the ‘old’ parties any good. I would imagine greens might benefit from the educated ones and racists from the Tate obsessed incels.

These age group represents 2.8% of the population entitled to vote, so impact on a result will be minimal.

You've pretty much nailed it.

Sadly, more of the latter about than I think a lot of people realise. A few of my mates have boys who are 16/17, and you'd be surprised how many favour Reform. I try not to think about it tbh, because it's a bit scary. I hope they're not representative of their wider demographic.

I believe Plaid are the most popular in Wales for that age group.

It's fine at 18, rather than act of liberation this would just make 16 year olds a grooming target for the scumbags.

It’s their future the rest of us keep messing up. Let them have a say.
Yep. I've read some articles which posit that the reach of the right on social media will have more effect on the youth vote. That's ok, they get do make decisions about their future and if they make mistakes then they have enough time to correct them. We, as a group of generations, have failed them with our outmoded views and inability to rise up and fight those who obviously risk the future because we want to keep what we have.

That said didn'y someone say that their cohort are only 2.98% of the vote, so no real affect overall...for now.

If a 16 year old can be in a position to fight and be killed by the actions of leaders in war zones then they should have every right to vote.

The demographic of the 20 to 30 age group is changing dramatically and will further in the next 10 to 15 years.

I don’t believe they can at that age.

I do support them having the right to vote at 16 though.

They can’t. They can join up but won’t be sent into combat till they’re 18.

Simple fact is that 16 is old enough. There’s very little material amd maturity differences between 16 and 18. The people who oppose it do so because they’re worried that 16-18 year olds will vote in a way they don’t approve of. It’s the same reason as people ho advocate abolishing the Senedd. They wouldn’t be saying anything if Wales regularly voted Tory but it never has and never will. Well I don’t approve of the fact that 60plus year olds regularly vote for parties I don’t approve of (and are responsible for the ongoing act of national suicide that is Brexit) but I’m not advocating telling them they’re not allowed to vote.

And not forgetting either, that many of those opposing it are the types that shout at clouds and small boats. There are many ‘grown ups’ who wouldn’t be anywhere near a voting booth if you had to prove you know anything about politics or how these things work.
