The Summer Transfer Window Thread

Told Idah due for a medical tomorrow afternoon. Fee is not 7m as posted around
The more research I do, the more it appears Idah is either Satan or he has something on every Celtic Fan. Not seen 1 positive thing said about him. We have recruited really well and we won't always get it right, but I just don't see how we can recruit a player as bad as they are all saying.

I suppose when you have a team that controls and bosses nearly every game they play, its hard to notice an attacking players contribution when he's not scoring goals. he could have other aspects of his play which suit us better. Runs in behind, holding the ball up etc. Things Celtic don't need, he may not be suited to them.

Yates, Lowe, Mykola, and Bianchinni were all multi million pound strikers. Vipotnik and Cullen are both internationals.
Seems like we’ve missed out on a lot of our targets. Hopefully if we can bring someone in they’ll buck the trend.
Yes they were, however none of the above were the complete package, in fact none of them were anywhere near.

I'm not thinking we will sign the complete package, but this time the money mentioned is higher and therefore we have to hope the player signed brings more to the table.

The rumours are certainly more promising than the above strikers.

One other aspect of it is that the Celtic fanbase is big. 60,000 seater stadium. The responses we’re seeing online will only be a fraction of what is being said about the player. This is usually the case with any club we buy from but it’s amplified with Celtic.

Also, if we look at someone like Obafemi for us, the overriding sentiment among our fans if you look online is that he was awful but that wasn’t really the case. His time here is blighted by his attitude problems.

The only sensible thing we can do is judge him in a Swans shirt.

last season 30apps, 8 goals 1 assist in the league. 16 of which were starts.
1414 mins in total. a contribution every 156 mins.
In a team that batters teams week in week out, its not great. Especially as most the teams in that league are probably league 1 standard.
Edit to add: 2401 mins in all comps, 20 goals 1A. which brings it down to 114 mins per contribution, some of which was champions league football

I'm not sure where you've got that 30 appearance, 8 goal stat? He scored 13 goals in the league last season in 35 games, he scored 8 goals the season before in 15.

He isn't as bad as they'll be saying, it's a bit doom and gloom at the minute with them with them missing out on the Champions League and in general Idah's probably the weakest starting striker they've had in a long time. But for us, and for Championship standard he'll be a good player.

In the last decade leading the line they've had Griffiths, Dembele, Edouard, Giakoumakis, Kyogo and Maeda. Idah isn't on the level of any of them, and has come in for the biggest fee, so he's fallen someway short of meeting the expectations of Celtic fans. The expectations of Celtic fans will be significantly higher than the Swans though, which is where the disparity in opinions will come, he's just got to be better than Vipotnik and Cullen for us and I'm confident he will be.

Transfermarkt.com. I've checked and It splits the normal league season (8 in 30) and the top6 split part(5 in 5), my mistake. So yea 13 goals in 35 in the league.
Its still included in the 2401 mins in all comps part though.

I'm not writing the guy off. Its just the fee that's being banded about is high.
Though since that post, I've seen its potentially 4.2m then adds on take it near 7m. i hope those add ons are promotion etc.

Fair enough.

Yeah I would say that sort of deal makes sense for everyone, we get the striker we want, at a price we can afford to pay with FFP. Celtic can publicise the fee with add-ons, and save face to their own support.

I would imagine add-ons would either be based on promotion, or on him scoring an amount of goals that would make him a profitable signing. That makes sense from our perspective.

I mentioned on page 325 of the summer transfer thread (RIP), that spunking big money on a striker is making me feel uneasy.
I really think there’s a player in Vipotnik but since the Dickey Muff era, we just aren’t giving our strikers enough service.
Will a brand new, multi million pound striker fare any better?

Phuq me - this guy is still 23 and has a ceiling so high that someone paid 9 million for him as a 21 yr old.
Those suckers at the Irish FA are so stupid they selected-this young man not once or twice but 30 Times!!
Because some internet keyboard warriors are dissing him then for sure he is a shit show 😱
For fucks sake lets sign fhe guy watch him play and let him settle.
Before we turn up at his house with burning pitch forks lets see what he has to offer..
My guess is we will be pleasantly surprised!

My friend in Glasgow who is a fanatical Celtic fan texted me earlier about Idah.

“The worst player ever to wear the hoops. And there's been a few.”
Oddly I was having a back and fore on text yesterday with a Celtic supporting friend of mine who wasn't quite in the "worst" category but it was certainly much closer to that end of the scale

I posted that before last night’s £7m Idah story broke. It wasn’t aimed at him directly.
