Colours Nailed and all that

Why do you continually repeat such a pointless statistic?

In the seasons since the parachute payments ended we’ve finished 15th, 10th, 14th and 11th. Hardly setting the world alight.

As far as points are concerned, we’ve had 61, 66, 57, 61. We currently have 46. 46 with 11 games left.

So we need a point a game to match the worst points tally since we were relegated. 15 points from 11 to match the second worst we’ve had. And 20 points to match the ‘best season since parachute payments’.

We are highly unlikely to get 20 points from our remaining games.

Given 6 of the remaining games are away from home and we are also playing quite a few of the better teams, the 15 points may be difficult unless we significantly improve.

So repeatedly stating a statistic that will almost certainly change before the end of the season to justify how good we are is ridiculous.

For what it’s worth, imo our recruitment has been good in parts, average in parts and very disappointing in parts. It’s not only what we have recruited, it’s what we haven’t. And whether we’ve recruited appropriately to give us a team rather than to give us players who will have resale value.

Not getting in a forward in January and letting Wales go out on loan was stupid as an example. It’s left us with no option other than to run Vipotnik into the ground. Or play Cullen as a lone striker to rest Vipotnik when it quite obviously doesn’t work.

Recruiting Ward was pointless. Burgess is ok but isn’t the best fit for Cabango. Winger recruitment can be summed us by us playing Ronald as a starter virtually every game. Usually with Eom. Idah we don’t know yet. Widell shows promise but seems to achieve little. Same with Yalcouye.

Stamenic and Galbraith have been good. Albeit Galbraith at right back isn’t working angainst any team that is any good. Largely because Cabango and Burgess are not Matip and Van Dijk.
Bloody hell Lisa I was having a good Sunday until I read that 😕

Pick an arbitrary measure of success to match the current achievement, defend it to the hilt, when it becomes indefensible and it becomes clear you are doing this all in service of defending your own work, set up a new account, adjust the measure downwards, defend it to the hilt and so on and so on.
Not having it. Would be stupid to post and would be totally unprofessional.

I wasn’t talking about politics, I was talking about fans determined to rip the club down. Darren O’Dea claimed to sign Idah, you would be better off calling me DoD. I am someone who simply supports the club and doesn’t look for negatives because we lost a game against a squad worth 200m.

I give credit when its due and provide accurate, honest criticism when its due, which you inexplicably do not. No one needs to look too hard for negatives from yesterday, they were plain to see (not that I actually have raised any).

Seeing as you fail to understand my point your vested interest comment was so weird the only legitimate manifestation of this would be a Celtic or Rangers leaning swans fan not wanting him to succeed.

Adam Worth says he's a swans fan publicly too.

I personally am really enjoying watching us at the moment. I like the effort and desire and didn’t think we were going to go up anyway (and as I said before, didn’t want to go up to be honest as I don’t enjoy a season seeing us thrashed every week).

Our snail’s pace football has largely gone and that’s the bit I hated to watch.

Matos seems to be approachable and enthusiastic and that transmits to the players and the crowd.

We don’t know as yet what he can do to make us competitive as we don’t have the players for it (as I’ve said for ages when everyone else was screaming that it was just Williams, just Sheehan, whatever).

I’m pleased we won’t go down given where we were and I think next season will be a far better indicator of what Matos can do against better teams.

I think we are a way away as yet and we definitely need more income. I’m not a huge fan of the Americanisation of football and the celebrity endorsement but it is what it is and we have to go along with it I guess.

I was hugely impressed by Snoop Dogg’s commitment to involving himself as far as he could last week (I think he probably should have made an appearance of sorts in the second half rather than stay in the suite but that’s a minor issue). It bodes well for his involvement going forward (it’s good to see his kids involved).

So all in all, it will have been a positive season.

I just don’t think we should pretend it’s something that it isn’t or that there are not areas that require substantial improvement.

Because I think it’s valid.. I didn’t say we set the world alight since parachute seasons, that wasn’t the point I was trying to make.

The point being made was it’s a clear barometer of where the club have been, since then our squad has eroded to a point where we went into the summer with one senior CB at the club. Why would we suddenly be world beaters?

The usual suspects are moaning now, not at the end of the season. At this moment in time we are having a better season than we have in years, if that changes at the end of the season then it’s a different discussion. The point is, it’s not justifiable as it stands.

Recruiting Ward was not pointless, he has offered cover at CB and RB. There is no benefit keeping Bobby Wales to be 4th choice striker, it’s better he was sent away to develop. From what we understand PSR was an issue in Jan, so it’s clear that a winger and creative midfielder who can impact the first team was preferred over a cover CF when we already have Cullen. I would also question the level of striker we could get in who would be happy to come in to play 2nd fiddle, and likely 3rd fiddle when Idah returns.

I’ve checked his post history, he is one of the ‘fans’ I refer to by the looks of it. I won’t be abused for defending my club.

Don't conflate criticism of the actions of club staff with the club as a whole.

Tony Petty in his time was technically acting on behalf of the club in his time as the owner. If someone criticised him, would that be criticising the club? No, of course not.

I don’t think you do, you look for negatives, and if there is any grey area you ensure it’s a negative one. What has yesterday got to do with anything?

Mal Pope is too.

That’s probably the worst analogy I’ve seen on the internet 😂

Yes, I agree, slowly slowly, but things are definitely moving in the right direction.

The negatives of the Idah signing are completely clear. You're the one who spins his stats into a positive which suggests you are really the one with a vested interest.

You brought up us losing a game to a 200million squad or something not me. I presumed you were referring to the game yesterday with that or did I get that wrong?

Mal Pope wouldn't have a vested interest in defending a poor transfer decision. A member of the club's recruitment staff would.

Absolutely no reason why we can't win all three
Agree with that but the gog game, 3rd in a week will be a tall order, fatigue may play a part, but yes winnable in theory, it's the championship so not making any predictions
