Grimes

Not a fan skip?

He's alright. Maybe he can reinvent himself as a proper box to box. I've always thought he lacks the self confidence to be as good as he might be, consistently. Never going to pull up any trees in his current incarnation. Needs to be off set pieces immediately, although his penalties were excellent when he was allowed to take those. Removal of the captaincy would help him, and us, I think - make the captain the best suited on the day, so no automatic selection for anyone - and we don't need him, Fulton, Allen in the same line up ever.

No, fan isn't the word, it's a project that has failed for 5 years, extending it with another four years just seems crazy.. he's been a captain of a team that has failed at every turn, when is enough, enough.. I want to be playing in the PL, not this average championship sh*t week in week out.. midfield is a key area, and Grimes is evidence that it's failed, every stat points to it.. yet we extend his stay, plus he might turn into Ramsey at 30 and we'll be stuck with him until he's 32 on wages we can't afford.. Grimes has really conned every f*cker.. I just don't get it

Also watch the facial expression at 6.02 when asked about Grimes.

What are you taking from that?

When I saw it before the announcement, the slight smirk by Duff when asked about Grimes, made me think something was happening

The other side to the coin than no manager has taken him when they left is that they all played him in every game when they were here.
He's not Premier league, he's solid Championship.

Ah okay.

Agree with this. All 4 managers have seen him as a vital part of the team here, yet the previous 3 have also decided he's not worth the (presumably) £10m+ it would take to sign him for their new clubs. Seems about right for Grimes to me.

Not to blaspheme, but it seems to me that it's similar to how Leon would have been viewed. Any manager would be delighted to have him at their club, but no-one was going to spend big money on him.

Before anyone says it, I am in no way saying Grimes is as good as Leon was.

Whatever your opinion is of his footballing ability you can’t argue with his reliability and commitment.

Grimes has it in his locker to produce superb, defence splitting passes which bring goals. Think of the slide rule pass for Oba to score against Cardiff at the Liberty last year, and the pass which put Cullen away against Brum two weeks ago. When he gets close enough, he's got a shot on him too.
I want Duff to bring those skills out in him by playing him further up the park. He should be advanced midfield, not protecting the back line.

Apparently it took him 3 months to sign the contract because every time they passed him a pen he kept passing it straight back

'Solid Championship' is a very good way of summing up Grimes.

Never lets anyone down at this level, but never pulls up trees either.

Reliable, but completely unspectacular.

You wouldn't cry if he left tomorrow. But you can't lose your shit at him staying either.

Impossible to love, impossible to hate.

Probably the most beige footballer ever to wear the white shirt.

5 years and still in the Championship.. can anyone see the obvious, every manager who's left hasn't taken him, the sirens and alarm bells should be ringing loudly.. but perennial failure Gareth Southgate has bigged him up.. so he must be mustard, most of our fans are chuffed though, seeing mediocrity week in week out
I’m with you here Skippy. Five goals from midfield in 230 odd games is a poor return. And as you alluded too, why hasn’t he been snapped up by one of his former charges?

He's a perfect example of a player who is OK for the Championship but not for the Premier League. That's OK because that's where we are. He seems like a good pro.
