I thought I was dreaming the 20mph limit

When does this become a left Vs right arguement (there's no true left or right anymore). It seems that people that lean towards the traditional left/labour will turn themselves in circles to support the change. It also seems that people who lean towards the traditional right are raging against the change.

This whole forum is less about the swans, than people seeking to voice their opinion on the political spectrum.

20mph absolutely has its place, like schools, hospitals, churches, parks, estates etc. Rolling out everywhere without proper preparation is a joke.

Drive from garden village to llewitha, then turn left at the lights and go past KFC. Turn right up Carmarthen road and then turn right at the lights in to the industrial estate past the golf shop. Drive down then take the shortcut towards the (ex) joiners arms and turn right towards the lights, then left back to llewitha.

You'll have no clue what limit you should be doing. There are even 30 repeater signs.

Driving at 20 past a deserted school at 6am seems a bit draconian. I've always relied on a hefty slice of common sense when judging appropriate speed, and given I've yet to experience a small child or old codger bouncing off my windscreen I figure I can't be too wide of the mark.

As usual it's the idiots we have to change the rules for. And they'll probably be too dense to follow them anyhow.

Common sense is not that common.

I have encountered the same issues, with regards to signage. Now you would have thought that this would have been sorted beforehand. The whole thing has confused the heck out of a lot of folk, mainly due to the fact that it is simply not a blanket change. Yes, in the main housing estates etc are now 20mph, its the rest that is a bit of a mess, you only have to look on social media to see the problem.
I spent an hour last night, on the council website and on the WAG datamap, which is less than useless, and to be fair it's no wonder why folk are scratching their heads, and it's not just in Swansea, it's all over Wales.🥴

This is exactly what I did last night too.
I travel on Llangefelach Road 4 times a day from Dyfatty northwards which I believe is 20 mph for the full length apart from a section close to the M4 roundabout, but I can’t find out for sure. Anyone know for certain?

I think the WAG is working on the principle that 'If in doubt, drive at the lowest speed ie: 20mph'. Win/Win for them then.

That’s what I’m doing.

Aye, to back up what you are saying, I entered into one end of a town behind a fiesta driven by a young bellend. Off he takes accelerating to 30 or above while I pootled along at the 20 limit. There are about 6 sets of traffic lights through the town, and he got stopped on 3 of them, which meant both of us exiting the town at exactly the same time. So him shooting off from every set and upto and past 30mph, definitely used more fuel than I did just meandering along.

There is just too much traffic and obstructions along these built up routes to make any noticeable difference time or fuel wise.

Absolute carnage, things on stop everywhere, how on earth are we going to cope with this new limit

People generally don't like change, and some people definitely don't like being told what to do.

Yeah, when there’s traffic during the day this won’t make much difference. It’s a pain being out in the early mornings and evenings. 20 mph on an empty road feels painfully slow, but I suppose we’ll get used to it eventually.

Some of the signs need sorting though (edit - I’ve just read the posts above, and yeah agree with a lot of the issues raised around confusion). Cockett has a stretch that is 20 heading out of town, but 30 coming back in  Because there are so many 30 mph exceptions, it’s difficult to know whether you’re in a 20 or 30 a lot of the time.

There is absolutely no need for a blanket change (pretty much) from 30mph to 20mph. The only places that need 20 zones are schools and heavily built-up housing estates...and possibly roads in the middle of cities around shops etc. Doing 20mph on open roads is ridiculous - plus you're in lower gears so there are all the negatives that go along with that.

I don't get the 'it's safer' thing...yeah, well, 15mph is even safer. 10mph safer again. Let's ban cars, no one will die from road-related issues then.

30mph in modern cars with modern braking systems is absolutely fine for the vast majority of roads.

Another day on the road with zero issues for moi, guess I must be lucky.

No increase in fuel use, no added times to my journey, and nobody sitting on my bumper.

It seems like we've lost the ability to read road signs reading some posts on here. If the sign says 30, drive at 30 if it says 20 go at 20. Doesn't matter if it goes from one speed to another, just look at the signs which we were taught to do when learning to drive.

Keep going gents, you'll get there (albeit slower and by using more fuel  )

The Senedd has debated this issue a number of times. Even passed a law. Most of the opposition voted for it, despite what they’ll have you believe now. Why anyone thinks another debate will change anything is beyond me.

Just been up to our Capital City, have to say the signing was spot on, new repeaters on 30 roads. Very clear no problems.Any idea what youd do when there are 30 and 20 signs next to each other on the same street?

Nope, sorry, the WAG, datamap is hopeless, I tried all ways to read it, most of the layers apart from the roads which the council want retained as 30mph are not there.Very poor.
