I thought I was dreaming the 20mph limit

Just been out for this first time since the new laws , end up following a car doing 17 mph , not his fault , in a residental area .

Now I had to come out of 5th gear , most fuel efficent , to 3rd gear , just to keep the revs up , also there were overtaking opportunities for some chancers if they wanted , I did not .

Guaranteed not everyone will be as patient as I was , and somebody will certainly take that risk and overtake .
This new law , unless properly policed , which I doubt , could cause more accidents .

Always going to have bellends tailgating no matter what the speed limit, they do it at 30, they do it at 60 and they do it at 70.

At least when they do it at 20 they’ll cause less damage and injury when it goes tits up.

Most of my route today has been duals and motorways, so not much to report.

...and what about the cost to drivers who now have to chug around in third?

I live in Bromley and have come back to Swansea for a few days. The signage in some places is useless. Zones change from 30 to 20 for a few hundred yards then back and one side of a road seems to be 20 but it's 30 in the opposite direction (e.g. by Siloam in Killay). This system is utterly ridiculous. Round my way there are 20 limits around schools but only during certain times of the day and there are flashing lights to alert drivers. Much better idea

[Just hope the policing of these new laws is a 24/7 exercise , not just daytime when mostly honest motorists are going about their duties , but after dark when the boy racers appear , hammering it up outside my house , a 30 mph limit . some of them must be touching 70 , and I live in a residental area ./quote]

Link? - I want to sign it.

59,000 now, looks like the Wag idea is not very popular. Only shame is, the petition runs till March, which is a bit long to wait.

First report, been out and stuck to speed I normally do, felt as if the majority were ignoring the new crazy law. I did come across 2 drivers who were doing under 20, and I just overtook them.

The Brexit petition got six million signatures and we kept getting told to ignore it. Now petitions are all the rage amongst the same people.

First time in the car for me since the amendment, drove as normal, to the conditions and road than the speed limit.

It is mass ignoring of the change, long may it continue.

There is no extra cost, it’s a saving. You use less fuel accelerating and decelerating from 0-20 than from 0-30. And let’s face it, most of the driving in Swansea is stop start. I’ve not noticed any difference to journey times yet from 3 runs across the city. I have been stuck behind bellends doing 20 in 40 zones though

It’s just going to take a little while to get used to it, but I’m struggling to see what the fuss is about. It’ll be better for us all on the roads around where we live - and for our families/kids when out walking, on bikes, etc.

Aye, to back up what you are saying, I entered into one end of a town behind a fiesta driven by a young bellend. Off he takes accelerating to 30 or above while I pootled along at the 20 limit. There are about 6 sets of traffic lights through the town, and he got stopped on 3 of them, which meant both of us exiting the town at exactly the same time. So him shooting off from every set and upto and past 30mph, definitely used more fuel than I did just meandering along.

There is just too much traffic and obstructions along these built up routes to make any noticeable difference time or fuel wise.

Absolute carnage, things on stop everywhere, how on earth are we going to cope with this new limit

People generally don't like change, and some people definitely don't like being told what to do.

Wow, what a world we live in, 24 hours earlier, he would have been a normal driver, now he's a young bellend.

Business as usual on my route.

In fact Walters Road in Llansamlet (already a 20 limit) had its speed bumps removed. Winner!!

That can’t be right! There must be carnage out there, you must have used half a tank of fuel at least! Did you pass any stranded emergency vehicles stuck in the gridlock? What about angry tourists vowing never to visit Wales again? Go and try again 🤣

I'm no engineer or petrol head but a quick Google suggests at the same RPM you will travel further in 5th gear than in 3rd gear, ergo travelling in 3rd should mean you use more fuel. Agree the argument about harder acceleration and vigorous braking, but that wasn't my point

Watching BBC Wales now, and Lee Waters on, asked if you do 28 miles per hour will you get points, he said yes you will if caught by a speed camera, but advice if caught by a patrol, so much for time to adjust then.
