I thought I was dreaming the 20mph limit

36 more bodies for the Welsh Tax Payer to fund to the value of 12million quid, when that money could be far more wisely spent, its the policy of a madman and his cronies.

A valid opinion whether I agree or not, but not the point I was making.

Drakeford now wants another 36 WAG members to boost his power trip and satisfy his ego before he stands down .

Have signed the petition for any good it will do ,our Welsh leader lives in the Dark Ages , saddle up Hercules .

His appalling legacy will be to me , development of Sophia Gardens for a T20 bit of fun , bailing out Glamorgsn CCC , added to
sparkling new Stadiums , Millenium and Legoland , total redevelopment of Docks , now Cardiff Bay Marina .

Swansea has no investment in electrification of the railway , access to our tourism hotspots is plagued by traffic lights , road works and speed traps , maybe Cardiff sees us as a Student City , not worth the effort .

Glad to see the end of him , I did not vote for a Welsh Assembly devolution back in 1997 either .
Chuck in the disrepair and neglect of St. Helens too , any help there from Cardiff , thought not .

I agree with a lot of what you say but with regard to the rail electrification maybe not. Originally when it was announced I was, like you annoyed, but since then I’ve spoken to a train driver many times and he told me that it would make no difference to the time taken to get to Swansea from Cardiff because of all the bends in the track due to the natural terrain . So it would be a waste of money.

But the trains now need to be hybrid diesel/electric instead of just electric. I assume this would be more expensive. I must admit I haven’t bought a train for a while and when I did, it was a Hornby train.

Not in my experience, no. Petitions can’t change laws, legislatures can. Fact is this was in the Labour manifesto for the last Senedd elections. It was also in Plaid’s. I knew it was there, but I’m one of those weirdos who tends to at least skim read these things. It had no influence on how I voted. If there’s a lesson here for people it’s know what you’re voting for before you decide. I’ve very little sympathy for those who complain after the fact. Whether they like it or not the Welsh Government has a democratic mandate for this and those who don’t like it can register their distaste at the next election. I would be absolutely amazed if the Welsh Government changed this policy cos of the pressure from an online petition only three days after it was introduced. It would show incredible political weakness and they won’t do it. There’s a reason they’ve introduced this now, the next Senedd elections are three years away. By then people will be so used to it they won’t care and it won’t influence many votes. I’m also one of the apparent very few people who don’t think this is such a terrible idea anyway. :D

I agree with the lesson about know what you are voting for before you decide but voting for a party based on a manifesto that has so many agreeable points against the other parties manifestos with the 20 mph hidden between the trees. "Make 20mph the default speed limit in residential areas and ban pavement parking wherever possible." While I missed that at the time, and it irks me, it was one point among so many others and if it was truly understood what that daft prick actually intended I would have been far more focal with the inept politicians on this. I agree it won't make much difference now and they are in a strong position for now but if people remain upset for the next couple of years then those debates will become more serious. 20 is plenty in a lot of areas and I can see the point clearly in my village for example. Other roads though are just plainly insane when viewed from time/economic factors.

Fully agree that if the strength of feeling on this is as strong at the next Senedd election, in three years, as it is now, after four days, there may be some electoral consequences. It won’t be though.

If there was a changing room for just before the elections then this should be posted on the wall. Unfortunately I fear you are right. Brexit seems to be forgotten about even by the lot on the other board.

I hope Mr 123 or the others don't see this article. If you see him, direct him away from this link

I’d imagine the only party that will commit to abolishing it at the next election will be the Conservatives despite them supporting the change in the law at the time. So good luck throwing in your lot with Andrew RT Davies and his ilk.

If there was a visual representation of a 'gammon', RT Davies would be it.

Moving to Spain is becoming more appealing by the day even though I don't really get the idea of Tapas.

The Senedd has debated this issue a number of times. Even passed a law. Most of the opposition voted for it, despite what they’ll have you believe now. Why anyone thinks another debate will change anything is beyond me.

My father (who is of the same political leaning as you) was one of the most experienced traffic officers in swp during the 80's, 90's and 00's. He disagrees with this blanket ban as he attended VERY FEW fatalities in 30 mph areas (which were not caused by speeders).

The senedd debated a petition where they asked the creator to stop as it had reached the threshold. They then totally dismissed it without any real debate. There was even an earlier review put out by labour themselves, to about six thousand people where the results came back as 65% against. A senedd member (can't remember who) dismissed this as non-representative; their own poll!

The new petition is now above 325,000 signatures. There's probably not that many Tories in the whole of Wales, so some other party supporters must be voting, like all of my colleagues in Llanelli who are dyed in the wool labour voters.

It’s not a blanket ban, no matter how many times RT Davies and his cronies say that it is.

Have taxi etc fares gone up as it takes longer to travel?

Have bus timetables been altered?
