Is Luke Williams time up at Swansea City - will Baggies links be the end?

A goal conceded to the rush press against Luton, and nearly cost the win, a goal conceded to the rush press against Portsmouth (OK, it was the last one, so hardly important).

Every time he experiments with the back line these goals start leaking again, and he keeps experimenting.
.

Thing is, he's not experimenting - he's indulging.
His prime focus is HIS possession stats, at all costs - just like his failed mentor.

Inverted FBs, CDM squeezed back into deep deep pivot, wingers squeezing back in - all to congest the already congested middle - to retain and maximize possession stats.

It's beyond unbelievable that some of our fans either can't or choose to not see history repeating itself, in a very bad way.

The performances of the likes against Portsmouth & Hull are becoming more frequent and a few wins in between doesn't cut it for me anymore.
Largely atrocious football and no tactical knowledge at all.
WBA are welcome to him if the really want him.

He can't alter his tactics based on the opposition, that is one of the main reasons we are so inconsistent.

He plays full backs as roaming wingers. He plays Grimes as a sweeper. He plays long ball when Vip is on bench but short when he's on pitch. He plays Abdullai anywhere he can't play. He has no plan B. He has no answer to a press. He refuses to drop out of form players. He lets others do team talks. He refuses to try youth. What I will give him is the fact that we have a very average squad with some league one level at best.
We need a new direction. A manager who doesn't aspire to be Gardiola. One who makes his own signings not based on office based idiots with spreadsheets of data. That unfortunately involves a bigger radical turn around of the club and not just him. My opinion. Many will disagree probably. Debate it by all means. Slag it off or myself and I'll just reply with a fuck off (this aimed at usual suspects)

One way or another, I think his time is up.

His response to these WBA links has been crazy IMO. Naive at best. Not sure what he's thinking.

If he doesn't go to WBA, he's toast here. I don't think the majority of fans will accept this, especially with form and performances so patchy. Say what you want about Russ but he hardly put a foot wrong PR wise which is why our fans were happy to put up with bad performances. LW is nowhere near that level and a few bad results and I think the knives will well and truly be out for him.

But apart from that…?

🤣

WBA coming in for Williams just doesn't ring true to me. No hint of bitterness because he could leave this afternoon and I wouldn't bat an eyelid. I just can't, for the life of me, believe they would be interested in appointing him.

I know people will reference Martin to Southampton as an example of strange things happening.

At least with Martin he has a vision of how he wants his teams to play. I can't say the same for Williams.

This is quite insightful I think. Our inconsistency isn’t necessarily inconsistency of performance, it’s inconsistency of result depending on the opposing team. The performance is always more or less par.

Sit back, like QPR and Luton giving us time and space and we look good as it plays into our hands. Come at us, like pompey, Hull and even Cardiff for the last 20 mins and we turn to shit.

That’s why this bullshit ‘reinventing’ of football tops out at mid table with anything but the best players in their particular league.

Derby, Plymouth as recent examples of us clinging on for dear life at the end of the game.

He has no plan for the opposition.

It just seems a strange one. When the "news broke" of WBA's intrest my first reaction was just another click bait story, the fact that West Brom or Williams haven't come out to dispel the rumour make me think it has legs.
Surely they would have done thier homework on LW?

Sane here, I thought it was a joke at first.

He must have one hell of an agent.

So let's assume he goes one way or another.

The way the club is at the moment and the way the dressing room - especially Grimes - seems to call the shots, we can look forward to only one of two scenarios:

1. A screeching handbrake turn to another Mike Duff-type, cue Grimes and his dressing room cabal downing tools and putting us at risk of relegation because the applecart has been upset.

2. A facsimile continuity appointment in the Martin/Williams vein that will pander to the dressing room and will simply entrench the happy clappy, 'kumbaya' low standards we've come to expect, where everyone's best mates and the aim is to get the most possession, not win football matches.

The dressing room needs clearing out. It's toxic. It's got very little to do with any coach.
